Looking for a turbo

I have a buddy in need of a turbo. His truck is a 2007 Dodge 6.7 l 3500 srw.

Where do I find a deal on one of those? Quoted prices locally are from $3500 to $6500.

Actually Cummins in Winnipeg was the highest , 6500 + 600 to search there system to get one as they had no stock, lol Ouch !!

There has to be an aftermarket one out there for less than a grand

Where? Thoughts ? Opinions? Leads?

I don't know where you will find one for $1,000, but xtreme diesel performance has rebuilt ones that will drop right in for $2,600. I carries a 1 year warranty. They also have others that are new after market performance upgrade drop ins for $2,300.

Did you try a google search, I see quite a few places in the $1400 to 1500 range after you send back the core.

- Joe , I looked up Alamo before I raced out the door this morning . It didn't look promising. I will revisit that however .

- Brent , I agree , under a grand will be a tough road to hoe . My friend just wants / needs a stock unit .

-hdrolling , I have indeed looked on thoroughbreds site , yesterday actually . They are still in the game for pricing .

My friend needs to get his truck home from the shop it is sitting at so we can pull some numbers and search for the right thing.

We have been asked for ( depending on where we have called )

1- VIN of truck
2- Serial number of motor
3-numbers on turbo

So , I guess until we have those numbers , we are at a standstill.

It is interesting that some places you call just want make and model or truck and engine size. 2007 had 2 engines , 5.9 and 6.7 it turns out .

What's stopping your buddy from going down to the shop and pulling the #s? Can he not just drive it out of there?

Stock units are actually more expensive than most, if not all performance units. Remember stock typically means OE/OE rebuilt. Most aftermarket manufacturers in the turbo world will "improve" stock performance. Keep in mind when it comes to turbos, they only put out what is demanded from them. IMO, the most important thing for him to look at is the bearings. It doesn't save much money to put a cheap unit in that will only last until it's out of warranty. The other important factor for him is that it's a drop in unit that will not require modifications.

Has he looked second hand? I've seen many Dodge diesels from that era in salvage yards. Yes, there were two engines for that year, they switched to the 6.7 and call it a 2007.5

Thanks Steve and Brent. I will relay all this information to him . I am going to see him this AM . His plan is to get the truck home today and have a better look at what is going on . It may not even be the turbo . Could be many other things . Won't know till he get's it home.
