My dog's sniffing the vents

So for some reason my dog's sniffing all the vents as if there's something in there but there's not. She just started doing this since it started getting colder.
I've cranked the furnace and there's no smell of anything dead in there
This really has me stumped as she's never done this before
Any ideas

I have learned that a dog tells us much if we know what and why they are doing something. But, in this case I think it's another I wish they could talk. Other than there is a new odor that was not present before. The million dollar question is what is that odor.

You say there isn't anything in the vent ..... your dog says there is. Time to start pulling off the covers and vacuuming as far as you can. "The nose knows" and if it is a hound they are seldom wrong ..... most of the time crazy, but seldom wrong. Remember that what you consider nothing is the world to her .... a spider, a cricket, the month old trail of some critter or a year old half eaten french-fry. If she insists it's there, it is. Yeah it's weird as I know when she smells something outside she's always dead on and finds something.
I've vacuumed the vents, looked down the vent holes with a 2' scope and I can't see nothing
What's really weird is she goes crazy smelling the vents at night but not during the daytime

Dogs are Awesome

I'm betting you have a little mouse friend living in your heater area. Check out your furnace for little poops, and check the ducting in that area. I haven't had that problem in my trailer yet, but my dog can tell me where they are outside though.
Good luck

K I've checked the furnace are and nothing, I put the vacuum hose down the vents and there's nothing in the vacuum canister.
There's no holes in the coroplast and I've insulated the underneath with ridged foam and spray foam so that would slow them down I hope!
I've checked everywhere for turds in and out of the trailer and nothing.
It's sunny and warm out and she's not sniffing the vents but I bet you tonight when it gets cold she'll be at the vents.
So here's a question; if I just use the furnace tonight instead of hydro wouldn't the heat be enough to make them leave?

Hmmm

I was just thinking about where the intake vent is on our furnace, and was wondering if yours is under/by your refrigerator? Maybe something dripped there, and the dog smells it whenever the air is blowing?? Just a thought... Their noses are really sensitive

One of the workers left a sandwich and the bag is starting to weaken.

Be real careful about putting a vacuum into the duct work. I did that the first week I had mine and the hose ripped the flex duct work at 2 of the 3 vent areas. Lucky for me the dealer fixed them since there is alot of extra duct length by cutting off the ripped parts and attaching the ends back to the metal vents.

This whole sniffing thing had had me banging my head against the wall for sometime
We had some good winds for a few weeks and of course the leaves piled up around the trailer. On Saturday I took the leaf blower and sucked up 8 wheelbarrows of leaves.
So guess what happened? No more sniffing at all I'm thinking that she wasn't smelling rats or mice she was sniffing the smell of the squirrels that climb the trees as she loves to chase squirrels!
I was doing some reading about dogs sniffers and they say that a dog can smell up to 8000 different scents which I found very interesting.

Okay...so that means my dog was right about there being a mouse under the refrigerator. We found droppings and have set traps.

Just be sure to check the traps often. The old saying is The early mouse gets the headache... the second one gets the cheese!" They rarely travel alone, so be ready..

p.s. Peanut butter is the best bait I've found yet, and aluminum foil makes a great barrier. Roll it into a ball, and stuff it into any access holes or plumbing ports.

GOOD LUCK,
