Silicon vs PTFE Dry Lube ??

What's the difference? I'm looking at the WD-40 products
WD-40 300052 Specialist Dirt and Dust Resistant Dry Lube PTFE Spray
and
WD-40 300014 Specialist Water Resistant Silicone Lubricant Spray
, both claim to dry and not collect dirt and dust. Is one better than the other?

Silicon says it can be used on rubbers and plastics, not sure about the PTFE.

I'm thinking for a general purpose lube for things like landing gear, 6 point level up, slides, door hinges, locks, etc.

The reason I started thinking about it is Lippert specifically mentions "silicon" in their 6 point level up lit.

PTFE is the generic chemical abreviation for Teflon. The question is Teflon or Silicon?

Both are dry lubricants. Teflon generally is used for high temperature and is chemical resistance. Neither of which you will see in a slide mechanism.

My opinion, wither will work, Silicon will be cheaper.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm trying to consolidate and was wondering what "one-size-fits-all" lube would be best, even though I know there is no such thing. As it is I still need a "dry lube" as well as WD-40 for the hitch (recommended specifically by PullRite even though it is not a "lube"), but maybe I can cut down from 4-5 "lubes" to 2-3.

My understanding is that WD-40 is not really a very good lubricant. It does, I believe, have qualities that make it suitable for protection against corrosion and for dispersing moisture. If this is correct, I wouldn't suggest using it as a "dry lubricant" for the slide mechanism.

I'm thinking WD-40 is mostly diesel and is a great penetrant but isn't a good choice as a lubricant.

Thanks. Yeah, I understand WD-40 isn't really a lube, but right now I've got teflon, silicon, WD-40 and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head. I've got a good size box along with other things like Sea Foam, Stabil, Gumout, etc. Getting rid of some extras and keeping the few I really need would be nice already.

Funny thing, my older Superglide used white lithium to lube the tubes, I don't miss that. My current one uses WD-40 to lube the tubes. When I got the newer one I specifically called PullRite to ask "which" WD-40 since there are so many now. They told me the "old, original one, once a day when in use". I know they did something with the newer tubes so maybe they already have silicon or teflon coating and the WD-40 is just for corrosion, but then why would I only need it "once a day when in use"? But anyway, I digress.

Talking about extras, last time I cleaned things out I had 3 pizza wheel cutters in the trailer. Can't remember the last time anyone had pizza, especially that had to be cut that much.

My DW has a firm rule, if she don't know what it is, or where it's supposed to go, or who it belongs to... she puts it in the trailer.
