Belle Campground in Joshua Tree National Park
Stayed there for 4 days and had a great time. Has several sites big enough to accommodate my 276rlswe. 10$ a night no hookups but great scenery and peace and quiet.

Nice! We stayed at Black Rock campground early this year, but I'm eyeing Jumbo Rocks. Belle is starting to look nice with the bigger sites. My 4 year old loves climbing around on rocks, so Belle looks like a good candidate.

Jumbo is very nice but when crowded gets very tight to maneuver with a bigger rig or long trailer. People have slides opened right in to the narrow roads.
From Belle there is a nice short hike thru the desert down to White Tanks and the Arch Rock.
Climbing on the rocks is fun, there were real climbers there with ropes and gear right next to us, fun to watch.

Belle or Black Rock
Hi,
We are getting ready to visit JTNP over the MLK holiday and pull our 28' trailer. Black Rock has reservable sites, but I have heard that the road leading to the campground in pretty much washboard. Plus, the sites I hear are tight in Black Rock. Belle sound great, but no reservations. Does anyone have any insight or opinion on taking a risk to get to Belle and what the road condition is like?
Thanks!

Black Rock has a lousy road leading to it, but it's a short stretch. Take it slow and you'll be ok. The site I had was quite spacious, but not even close to level. Black Rock really looks to be better for tent camping, unless you're camped near the entrance where it's less of a hill. My .sig picture is from Black Rock. What you don't see is how blocked up the front end and right wheels are.

Belle is only a couple hundred yards off the main park road. No problem in and out, its a loop with wide dirt roads. Not sure on a long weekend what its like but not many the weekend we camped there.

As of 2/27/14 - "Deteriorating conditions of Black Rock Canyon Road"
"The road leading to Black Rock campground has deep potholes, is deeply rutted, and can be difficult to negotiate, especially in large vehicles. Please drive with caution."
Also..."RVs: There are no hookups for recreational vehicles. Black Rock and Cottonwood have fresh-water fill-up and dump stations. Motorhomes and habitable trailers are prohibited at Cottonwood and Sheep Pass group sites. At Hidden Valley and White Tank campgrounds, and at Indian Cove group sites, motorhomes and trailers, including their tow vehicle, cannot exceed a combined vehicle length of 25 feet."
