Shortages??

We are all seeing the shortages of anything and everything related to our RVs and tow vehicles. But, there are lots of other apparent shortages that have a REAL impact on RVing in general....HASH BROWNS!!

Has anyone noticed (maybe it's just here) that the availability of pre shredded hash browns, both frozen or fresh, is nil? It's been this way for a few weeks. I don't know about others but hash browns are VERY important to my camping experience....and I'm too dang lazy to shred them and do them right. Is it that way for anyone else or am I the lone duck? Maybe that's why?

I'm wondering if we farmed out the production/purchase of this staple of the kitchen to China as well? Even though the bag says OraIda maybe it's not really made here but imported? Maybe stuck on a ship off the coast somewhere?

I don't know but something has to give. I'm eyeing that bag of potatoes more and more every day, inching that shredder ever closer. I've made the rounds to 3 of the grocery stores within an hour (that's all there is) and my luck is zilch. Told DW she needed to shred and clean a big bowl of potatoes so I could cook them up.....well, she just looked at me, cocked her head....and, I'm headed to the grocery store(s) again to see if I can find some hash browns per DWs instruction.

I'd never know.. I doubt that I've eaten hash browns more than a dozen time in my life.. I do know that I've never ordered or purchased them on purpose..

I'm more of a steak fry or river tater guy..

Umm river taters.. bell pepper and onion diced in thick cut potatoes, in a cast iron frying pan.. just as they start to brown cover them with a lid and cook until the onion is clear..

I like those too but there's just something about those shredded potatoes cooked crispy with my 3 over easy eggs, 4 strips of bacon and biscuits and gravy...or pancakes. That's the only time I eat hash browns but I love them. I might have to eat more bacon, eggs, biscuits and gravy...or all of the above.

Amazon fresh says they can deliver them here in about a week. Call your doctor and ask if they have an "Ore Ida frozen hashbrown " patch to get get you through these tough times.

Hopefully they come around!

For three weeks now, DW has been checking every store in town for manocotti noodles (the ones that look like a toilet paper cardboard tube)... NONE TO BE FOUND !!!! Lots of egg noodles, mostacolli, penne, and all those other names for elbow macaroni in different shapes, but no manocotti and she's "beside herself".... Said she's going to make her own this coming week if we don't find some.... I think I've got a package of frozen hash browns that I'd trade for a box of manocotti

I gained a pound and a half, my cholesterol went up about 10 points, and my blood sugar (because of all the carbs) is now around 190 just reading that.

Danny just got back from picking up Rx at grocery store. They had every concievable OreIda potatoe product except the hashed brown "bricks" like McDee's sell. They did have bags of string hashd browns though.

Seriously? Tater Tots my man! Fry 'em in that bacon grease. Manicotti noodles? Life is hardly worth living these days. BTW: We have a huge fire SSW of us somewhere near Rio Medina and the smoke can be seen for about 40 miles at least. Well, back to the hash browns... let's fix the blame for this and go full on political? Danny? Kinda slow there in you neck of the woods?

I don't need anything for sugar (stays about 110), take a low dose for cholesterol (it keeps going down the more bacon and ribeyes I eat) and weight....ummm, well weight....I lost 15 lbs. before I came on my yearly trip to FL - it's about back.

Marshall, that's it!!! I use the shredded string type has browns!! So it's NOT nationwide or they're all stuck on a boat from China! That is GREAT! Now I've got to figure out how to get from here to MD and get them back without them thawing....

We've been looking for them for months. Not frozen, just refrigerated. In a green and white bag. Between the eggs and dairy at WalMart. They have disappeared.

Must have been 20 bags in that reach in freezer. I gues the east coast is good for something!

The east coast is a fine view in your rear view mirror!

Danny, check your email. I think you might have a note from your doctor. (And be sure to call me over for breakfast some time!)

We haven't had store bought hash browns.... in probably .... the last 15 years.

I make them... not the wife. Yes, they take a little more time to fix this way, but the end result is by far, better than store bought factory processed stuff with no heart or soul to it. Fix your own from scratch and you've put yourself into the picture, and they are fixed with real love and passion that way.

We are in Manhattan, KS and see shortages cycle thru our local Dillon's which is part of the Kroger group. Pasta, Pillsbury Biscuits, Frozen Veggies, Eggs, Dairy, all seem to have empty shelves at times. What surprised us last month was that the Albertsons in Lompoc, CA appeared to be nearly fully stocked and the prices were comparable to home! One exception, Tri-Tip roasts were half the price as here in Kansas and we are in Beef Country, doesn't make any sense to me.
