Maintenance on the front cap

Hi all, I'm doing my fall maintenance and I noticed that on the side of the camper up high towards the front there is some kind of black putty like sealant.
It's where the front cap comes together with the roof but on the side and is only about a five inch section. I'm seeing small cracks in the seams of the place just below the roof line. Camper is a 2017 2670bhs. What kind of sealer do they use for this area.
I can get pictures later today if it would help.
Thanks, Dan

Please post the photos, they would be a great help. There are several sealants used and quite a few "differing descriptions" offered by owners. Some call the dirty and stained white or cream colored butyl putty tape as "black" because it's changed color with "grime"... Other trailers, in recent years, do actually have "black butyl putty tape" under some molding, while the edges are covered with a different "NON-SILICONE" sealant and then there's locations where DICOR or Alpha Flex "self-leveling" or "non-self leveling" sealant are used. So, photos will help "zero in" on where and what type sealant to use....

I'm not sure if it's some kind of butyl or caulk but it's looking rough

The sealer that's on top of the rain gutter (appears black in the photo) is probably DICOR non-self leveling sealant. The sealant on horizontal surfaces of the roof is DICOR self-leveling sealant. The sealant around (and inside) the rain gutter extensions is Pro-Flex sealant (probably clear).

Okay sounds good. Thank you. I'll get some of the non self leveling dicor and get it cleaned up and sealed.

When you're resealing the area around the rain gutter extensions, pay attention to how you apply the sealant. The rainwater needs to be able to flow into the gutter and from there to the gutter extension and away from the RV sidewall. If you "glob it on good and thick" you may well stop the "normal rainwater flow" and have rainwater backing up in the gutter and then down the side of your RV. That will eventually start "black stains" down the side of your trailer from the trash/dirt/grime on the roof. So, pay attention to how you reseal the roof edges, rain gutters and gutter extensions. DICOR is "hell to remove once it cures" and if it's in a gutter, it's even harder to get it out..... BTDT
