How I named my trailer

So a couple of years ago, when my oldest son was 9 or 10, he came home from school where he had picked up the word “hobo.” He kept on saying it, calling his sisters a hobo, calling strangers hobos, etc. I thought it would pass so I let it go. After a few days, I said to him “boy, do you know what hobo means?” I think he thought it meant something else but he told me he didn’t know what it meant. So I told him it was basically a homeless person who rides trains. This answer caught him off guard a little and he made a few disparaging remarks about hobos. I asked him “dude, are you hobophobic?” He and his sisters gasped in unison and chastised me, “dad you can’t say that!” I still think they think it means something else. Anyways, my wife and I started using the terminology because it embarrassed the kids and we ended up naming our trailer “the hobo.”

Sorry if this is too off color, it’s Friday evening after a long week and I’m a little punchy. Here’s to happy camping!

I have used several names, all of which are against forum rules and good judgment to share.

As I think about it I can remember some choice words/names I have used on occasions in reference to my trailer %^&^%%%. I am sure others have used some choice words/names at times. In my case it never got to the point of labeling the trailer with those names

We named ours "Magic Carpet" because it takes us anywhere we want to go! Must be a good name, all of these years later, we're up to "MAGIC CARPET IV"!

As Aladdin sang "A whole new world, a new fantastic point of view!"

Come on, you all remember the words!?!

Good Luck,

We come from the land downunder, women blow and men chunder...
Also, we drive what would be called "small cars" in the US. Soooo.
When we bought our F250 it looked like a semi tractor to us, it was just ENORMOUS. The DW took to calling it Boris. I thought she meant Boris the animal (Don't call me that) from MIB III, but she meant Boris from True Lies, so naturally, our TT is now Doris.
Go figure where names come from.

I did not confirm this, but a civil war nut friend of mine once said hobo came about at that time. After the war it was slag for "home bound" as in the soldiers going home. Later it was applied to traveling homeless people and then to all homeless people. My young son heard me using the word bum when talking about someone to my wife. Later we parked and had the windows open as a guy walks by. He yells out daddy is that a bum. Lucky the guy was not offended and keep going. He sure looked liked a bum.

That’s interesting history on the term. I also enjoy when my kids repeat the things I say at inappropriate times. Haha.
