Black tank oopsie....

Hello, I was cleanning my black tank with the flush and had my valve closed. A friend of mine stopped over and I forgot all about it. We heard a POP, thought it qas the toilet because it was 1/2 full and 1st day it was really bad "water" [emoji90] was flowing out of the underbelly. Now I have a leak that I can't seem to find. I've Now it seems if u am 3/4 full I have a leak and the bathroom smell reminds me of my forgetfulness. Nothing came out of the vent. Some days a drip some a flood. I am unsure where to start looking and really don't want to drop the tank unless I really really really need to. Thank you in advance for you help

Oopsie is an understatement. I don't think anyone here is going to volunteer to drop the coroplast and/or the tank to explore the leak. Don your Tyvek suit and have at it.

Well, if you're tanks are like mine, you'll have to drop it to fix it. Here's a picture of mine.

My tank is 55 gallons and is basically a large basin with a lid glued on top. The pop you heard was probably the glue giving way causing the lid to separate from the basin. Why it didn't flow up the vent instead of popping the top, I can't say; unless the glue joint was not very substantial. Either way, you'll have to access the top of the tank and cut both the vent pipe and the sewer pipe as square as possible for the tank to drop.

I know a great tech in Modesto who would be glad to bring it in and repair it. I will bet it wouldn't be his first. Triple time rates apply! Before you go through all this make sure that it didn't separate at the neck where the toilet connects.

Thanks that may be where I start. I don't think it is hard to remove the toilet.

No it wouldn't !!! I too suspect the pop was the tank coming apart at the seam.

This is what you're black tank looks like, only yours is smaller, 30 gal vs 55.

The top on mine separated at the opposite end from the outlet, about two feet on the end and down one side. I'm waiting for the cement to set before I check for leaks.

Your black and gray water holding tanks are both most likely made out of ABS. (Meaning that a thread on fixing a gray tank would apply equally to a black tank and vice versa.) I did a quick search here using abs tank repair and found many threads on the topic. Here are links to four recent ones:

http://www.keystoneforums.com/forums...ad.php?t=29034

http://www.keystoneforums.com/forums...ad.php?t=29914

http://www.keystoneforums.com/forums...ad.php?t=28745

http://www.keystoneforums.com/forums...ad.php?t=29034

If you search through YouTube, there are a number of how-to's on the same topic.

10 years ago, the favored repair was to mix up a batch of ABS shavings and ABS cement. The crack needed to be stop-drilled at each end and V-grooved to improve the surface area of the repair. Successive layers of the cement mix were then laid down after the previous layer dried, each slightly larger than the last. You had to mix up a fresh batch of the cement mix for each layer because the stuff would not save.

Scanning through some of the recent threads, it appears that there are some newer products like TAP Poly Weld that will do the trick. I suspect that stop-drilling the crack and v-grooving it would still be the best preparation.

Let us know how it goes.

So here is the scoop on the poop.. First I would like to say thank you to all of your input. I purchased stuff called Plasti Mend. I just completed the patch and I need to let it cure. I am going to let it sit for a week then fill the tank. My 1st reaction is this stuff is awesome. I cleaned the area and applied the primer, as soon at the primer touched the tank it sealed the crack. I applied 3 coats of plasti mend and I have my fingers crossed..
