Stuck Slide Out

I just purchased a used cougar 278EFS and need some advise regarding it's super slide. When I push the button on the wall, I hear the motor try to move the slide but it does not move. One condition that is probably causing part of the issue it currently opened and has been that way for at least 3 years. I would appreciate any advise.

Thanks
Charles

Welcome to the Keystone forum, Charleserowe. You might try hooking up your truck to your Cougar, start the truck engine and then try putting the slide out. If this doesn't work, your battery and/or battery connections may be the culprit. The slide motor should be run only with a fully-charged battery.
Another thing you might try is using the manual crank to "get it started" assuming you can find the crank and the access to it. (In some cases, it is underneath the unit so you may have to look around for it).
If you do crank it manually, you should remove the battery connection to the slide motor as you may cause damage to the motor if you crank it in or out by hand without disconnecting it.

We had that happen once on our Outback and it was just "bound" as the guys in the shop called it (they thought maybe we ran it in too tight). There is a nut on the end of the shaft that you can use to turn the shaft just a little until the motor will have enough torque to start turning it. Ours unfortunately was under the bed in the sleeper so we had to take off some access panels to get to it, but I only had to turn it about 1/4 to 1/2 turn before the motor did its job.

Good luck!

Sounds like you got some good advise from Festus. After 3 years of non-use them slide gears may need a little encouragement. I would try to jump start the situation with the manuel crank, in other words use it to get it free from full open and then try the button, all while connected to your truck. Good Luck, keep us posted! JOE

i had the same issue. my battery was dead. i tryed it with just electric and nothing as well as hooked to the truck. then went a got a new battery worked great also make sure the terminals are clean on the cables for the battery. you may need to install new lug on the ends of the cables to ensure good connection...
