Showers ...

Howdy All;

While I was reading through another forum someone mentioned
that there was a new RV Park near some good fishing waters and
provided a link. I followed the link and the Park is small 17 sites,
not all full set-up. The part that got to me was they charge for the
showers. Yes they allow the Public to use them as well. What do they
charge you ask (???), well, it's $1.75 for 5 minutes. That's a lot for such
a short time. Most truck stops will charge I think, $10.00 but the time
is, within limits, unlimited so one can shower, shave, go about one's
personal routine.
Opinions ...

In California, quite a few of the parks charge for showers.. About $.75/7.5 mins. When I lived/camped in California, always had to have a roll of quarters.

Most of the county parks in southeast Michigan have electric/water hookups and a common sewer dump (no "on-site" sewer). Many of them charge for showers, some even charge for toilet stall "rental".

The last time we were at Groveland Oaks County Recreation Area, the campsite fee was $29 for Oakland county residents/$34 for non-residents and showers were $1.25 for 5 minutes. If you didn't get all the soap off in the allotted time, it was another $1.25 to finish.

The carwash was cheaper if you could get your kids to stand still while you wave the wand.....

Haven't seen pay showers outside of truck stops in quite a while... Haven't seen the pay massage on the beds either.

The last place I saw pay toilets was the local airport and they have done away with those on the last remodel.

We almost always camp where we can get basic hookups W/E. If they have relatively clean bath houses we use those, if not we use the on board one (gots to make up your mind if you are heading in or backing in tho) and watch the gray tank capacity. Lot of thirsty raccoons around here.

For years about half the places we camp charge 25 cents for up to 8 minutes. When we used the showers I never had a problem with it as long as there was hot water. Most owners will say they do that so showers are not let on or people don't stand in the shower until the hot water is gone. Always brought 2 quarters to be sure I could rinse. Currently I always shower in the trailer.

Now as for more that 25 cents, i think that is a bit much and would not want to pay it. Can't imagine what else they charge for, extra charge if the sun comes out?

Used camp in an old Chevy van I converted and we used KOA's or similar to bathe. Even 40+ years ago it was a $1 to $1.25 for a bath and after a couple of days without the DW bathing, it didn't seem all that expensive anymore.. .

Washington State Parks have had a 50 cents for three minute shower charge for many years. As long as those showers are clean, I don't mind paying it, but if they look like the cleaners haven't been through in a while, I opt for the inside shower.

The nicest showers we have ever seen in a public campground were at River Bend County Park near Sweet Home, OR, and they are free. It is also just about the cleanest campground ever, with large private sites. We always take advantage of that park when traveling to or from the coast from Idaho.

In Oregon, some of the county parks have pay showers. My grandson just loves to grab a handful of quarters and take a long hot shower!
The state parks all have wonderful, clean and large free showers. Heck, one on the Oregon coast has heated shower floors!
We'll pay most anything to keep the parks clean and well maintained in Oregon!!
Happy camping!!

13,000 miles of travel with the TT this last summer to Alaska, Washington and Wisconsin and we generally found that about 75% of the RV parks charge for the showers. The farther north one traveled the more common and the higher the price. I believe $2.00 Canadian dollar coin (called a toonie) was the highest for about 6 minutes.
