Glacier National Park

Any suggestions for places to stay in Glacier National Park? I have heard that the KOA's are pricey and not very nice.

We have stayed at SanSuzEd RV Park near the Park entrance 3 times. They have a nice bed and breakfast also. Not much in the way of amenities if you have kids. Very friendly owners and nice paved pull through sites.

The park is pretty big. Are these campgrounds in a good strategic location or should we plan on staying at one for a while and then going to an other place later?

Many Glaciers Campground is my favorite campground to stay. 100 miles from home. It is on the East side inside the park. Easy to get to and pretty centrally located for getting around the Park. We camp and do day trips from there. A stream runs next to the campground but those spots go fast. Have seen many Mountain Goats and a couple of Grizzlies on the mountainside above the campground. Bring binoculars or a spotting scope (people are often willing to let you look through theirs but never touch their equipment!)
Depending on the time of year "Going to the Sun Road" may be closed due to snow but the drive up to the gate is still scenic. Plenty of day hikes close by and shorter hikes as well. The highway south of the Park stays open so you can drive over to Whitefish for a day if the urge strikes you. Kind of like a little Jackson Hole. Another way to go is start at Many Glaciers or one of the nearby campgrounds and when you are ready to go head over to Whitefish down through Kalispell along Flathead Lake and hit Highway 200. From there west lto Missoula camping in one of the many river access roads or head East back to
I-15. (A short hop 20 miles up Hwy 287 takes you to Augusta (population 280 people, many thousand cows) and the Buckhorn Bar for a great burger.

We traveled from west to east so we stayed
2 nights at SansSuzEd campground.
Then stayed 3 nights at KOA on east side
as we wanted to travel up to Canada after
that stay.
