I actually saw a Hispanic brick mason crew do something similar to the second pic. They made scaffolding out of pallets and various dimensional lumber to reach the ground floor of a house at the daylight basement end. They used no nails, string, rope, nothing. Just stacked it up, crawled up and started laying brick!! Scared the crap out of me!!
