Sobering Reminder

Check and recheck those safety pins and chains.

No words to describe this event seem to be enough. I travel usually with a group and we have a system we all hook up our own camper, then each checks one another's followed by one last check of your own before pulling out. Our precaution is little comfort for thought and knowledge that you cannot control what comes at you as well this is the exact same result if an accident occurs and someone was overloaded. Your going to jail.

The other thing we do, such as today I need to hook up my neighbours camper for him while I have time during the day. The trailer lights will be left unplugged and he will need to catch that during his inspection of the hook up.

I hook up everything then my wife double checks to make sure everything is hooked up correctly then when we leave I check it one more time and when we take a rest stop I'll check everything again to make sure everything is holding. Another thing I do is if were taking our boat I put a chan from the trailer to the front hook on the boat. I'm not worried about the strap that holds the boat to the trailer I'm worried about the stitching comming apart on the strap. Be Safe everyone so you can have a great time camping.

Sad to hear this stuff.

We have a 16' x 8' cargo trailer we have been pulling for over 6 years to the motocross track.

Well a few months ago the kids wanted to go on sat and I had to work so my wife was going to take them as she has done befor.

We keep the trailer in the shop out back I loaded the bikes all the gear and gas and hooked the trailer up myself and pulled it around to the front of the house about 800 ft down our road. Even when I got out I still checked just to make sure it was hooked up right.

Well sat about 8:00am I get a call from my wife the trailer came off the ball
as luck would have it she was only going down our road to the main road.
The chains kept it from leaving the truck and she was only going maybe 20mph. Tail gate and trailer fix was over 1,300.

But they were all safe and very lucky. Still to this day I do not know what cause this I always get down on my knees and make sure the ball is on the hitch then install the pin to lock it down.

Ron.

WHO AM I
I am more powerful than the combined armies of the world.
I have destroyed more than all wars of the nations.
I am more deadly than bullets or missiles, and I have wrecked more homes and jobs than the mightiest siege of cannons.
I steal billions every year.
I spare no one. I find my victims among the rich and poor, among the young and old, the strong and weak, the high level and low level workers. Widows and orphans know me well.
I rise to such proportions that I cast my shadow over every field of professional as well as non-professional, from the humblest laborer to the nuclear scientist.
I kill thousands each year.
I lurk unseen and do my best work silently.
I am relentless.
I am everywhere; on land, at sea, in the air, in the home, on the farm, on the factory job, on the streets and highways.
I breed sickness, degradation and death.
Yet few people make a real effort to avoid me or even take me seriously.
I destroy, crush, cripple and maim. I give nothing. I take all.

I am your worst enemy.
I AM CARELESSNESS

I hate hearing this kind of stuff. She's right its so avoidable. Check and recheck slowdown and check again. I am all over my trailer at each break/rest stop. So sad to hear. However considering how many trailers are out on the road daily I would hope its a low number of incidents like this one.

I would hate to know what would happen if our 5er became disconnected at highway speeds!!!!

Have read a few stories of some having become unhitched at slower speeds but I cannot IMAGINE the damage that could happen at highway speeds! And Cabinfever you gave me as close as an example as I can get!

Like everybody here I check, double check, and when on the road at every stop I do a quick walk around, something that was pounded into my head while in the Army!!!
