No pics close by but approx 10 years ago my brother bought a 69 hemi 4spd Charger. It was a one owner which had been purchased when it was 10 yrs old from a dealership in Toronto , which up to that time had been only used in parades and such. It was still in the dealership name and had never been registered. Car had 7500 miles on it.
The fellow who bought from the dealership shipped to his home in Vancouver and parked it in heated storage and called it "his retirement nestegg". He and my brother were old friends but hadn't kept in touch. My brother had seen the car years ago when it was originally purchased, but not in recent years.
So one day 10 yrs ago he gets a call from this guy. He and his wife were divorcing and he was desparate for cash. He offered it too my brother for 30K and he agreed to the purchase sight unseen, based on his word that it was still in as new condition.
My brother brought it home and it was immaculate. Still had plastic on rear seat. Was original and as new with all documentation. After doing some research he was stunned to find out that the car was VERY rare and IIRC was one of 4 1969 Hemi 4spd ever made in the plum crazy colour. Apparently the colour was a 68 colour and not supposed to be carried over.. He found out that it was worth in the high 90's at the time.
He called me and said if I ever wanted to drive a real original HEMI 4spd now was the time as he was going to sell it because could not bare to have car sit in garage and not drive it. Could not drive it comfortably after finding out how much it was worth and how quickly driving it would depreciate it. I flew to Vancouver from Ottawa that summer just to drive that car (and see my brother ). No words can explain the feeling of sitting in that car EVEN with it just idling in the shop. On a quiet, out of the way road, I did I allowed(he)myself one 1st through 3rd burnout launch with rubber going into 4th. I was stressed about breaking the car ,so that was the extent of the performing!
He advertised the car in the buy and sell for 80K and was away for the weekend. On return the answering machine was packed with inquiries. Came down to 2 guys, one was rich and the other was a reg car guy who had wanted this style for years and had to have it. They bid against each other up to 92K and I believe could have went much higher. The younger enthusiast was tapped out and told my brother, it was every cent he could manage and almost had tears in his eyes believeing he was going to miss out.
My brother sold it to him rather than the other guy who wanted it only as an investment. My brother bought a lot near Cultus Lake with the $.
We have never heard of or seen the car again.
