Balancing trailer tires
Just had one of my Sailun tires replaced because it blew out one of the steel wires. Tire still held but after we got home we found wire wrapped around the rear jack with rubber and tire had a groove in it where it came out of. Tire dealer that replaced it said trailer tires aren’t balanced. If so, why aren’t they especially on these other rigs? We have a Raptor 356 dual axle.

Maybe the original tires on all my campers were never balanced, but when the tires got replaced, they were balanced. I insisted on it!

That is one ignorant tire dealer. They're not balanced because no one is in the trailer to feel it shaking.
He is overlooking a profit point in his business. I have no idea what a basic tire balancing machine costs but I bet it would make more money than it costs.
If it's round, and spins, it should be balanced.

Yep... balancing the trailer tires is right up there with replacing the useless black tank flush anti-siphon valve in my list of FIRST THINGS I DO when I get a new trailer..

The way I look at it balancing the tires can't hurt, only make it better. For the cost of the balancing seems like a no brainer to me.

I have never balanced a trailer tire and am pretty sure my tires last as long and ride about the same as those that balance them. If you can't tell the difference in balanced vs unbalanced, well... there's your sign.

Trailer tires have specific balancing procedure called lug centric rather than automobile tires balanced hub centric.
I'm with George, never had trailer tires balanced & honestly never noticed any problems by not doing so.

Actually a lot of aftermarket wheels for auto are lug centric as well.
I've always balanced both, but the shop must have the correct equipment.
Best way to see if it makes a difference is to follow the trailer and watch the tires bounce..

I've owned four trailers, three pull behinds and now a fiver. I've had the replacement tires balanced on the last puller and the now the Fifth wheel. There is a different feel in the seat of the pants in my opinion when, or maybe my backside when towing. Balancing removes any harmonic imperfections and reduces strain on the hubs and axles. To each his own.

I balance all my trailer tires. On my flatbed, when empty, the fenders shake badly when the trailer is unloaded, if I don't balance the tires. I gotta think the RV is vibrating the same way when the tires are out of balance, and 2nd line tires, and bigger tires, always take more weight to balance.
