Carlisle Tires

Is this the recommended model? It’s the only one that came up on Discount tire.

That's the one we've had on our Cougar for the past 5 years. Been a good tire with no problems. I did upgrade to a load range E just to get some extra headroom on the tire capabilities. Check your rims to make sure they can accommodate the higher pressures if you upgrade the load rating.

Well, yes and no .....

The photo is for a 225 75R15 LRD (8 ply rated) tire with a load range of 2540@65PSI. If that is the only one that came up, it's the "little brother" of what most members are installing on 15" wheels.

Most discussions on the forum are related to the same brand/different size: 225 75R15 LRE (10 ply rated) with a load range of 2830@80PSI.

I believe your trailer has 6 lug wheels, but depending on your wheels (5 lug or 6 lug) you might want to consider upgrading from LRD to LRE tires. The cost is minimal to obtain the 1160 pounds of additional tire capacity.

https://www.carlislebrandtires.com/o...dial-trail-hd/

As an example, the 225 75R15 LRE tires are available at WalMart for $87.15, about $50 less than the LRD tires at Discount tire. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Carlisle-...10PLY/55012166

Do your shopping wisely. DT will often match pricing with WalMart's prices.

Yes, went with that brand, style of tire LRE. No hint of a problem in approx. 4 years. Wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.

I did notice I grabbed the wrong load range.
Thanks for the heads up on the Walmart pricing. I’ll bring that in!

Forgot to mention, I'm on my second set of Carlisle Radial Trail HD with absolutely no issues. The first set "aged out" at 4 years and this set is now going on 3 years. So I've got 7 years of "towing a 10K fifth wheel" on two sets of Carlisles and about 10 years of towing a flatbed 8K GVWR trailer, all with zero tire problems.

I am on my second set of Radial Trail HDs as well on this camper (had them on previous camper). Only problem was running over a piece of rebar sticking out of the ground (must have been used for property line somewhere in the distant past. A rebar hole can't be fixed... ;-)

I've got 5 of those LR D on a tandem axle boat trailer. No issues in 3+ years. 3 of them on a utility trailer that the son hasn't tore up yet. Just put 3 on another boat trailer. Highly recommend.
I believe Carlisle is now making steel cased tires in smaller sizes. You might look into that. That could be Sailun not Carlisle though.

Brant there are 2 schools of thought on that. I balance my tires; I do not balance them with the sensors on. They weigh less than a fly's butt and I figure when I took them in for balancing they would either break them or lose them like they always do with valve stem caps. At $62 per TPMS cap I'm good. The sensor weight isn't enough to worry about.

That's what I did. I brought the quote from the Walmart across the street. The DT manager really swallowed hard, but he matched the price and saved me almost $200.

That was in 2018. I haven't put many miles on them the difference was noticeable over the china bombs that were on the trailer when we bought it. FWIW I've been running Carlisle tires on my trailers for 35 years. Never had a problem.

He didn’t blink an eye at the cheaper price. But I bought 5 sets of tires between personal and business. Even got the replacement warranty for each set thrown in.
