DS hydraulic slide out cylinder line leak
2014 Alpine.. it’s been and is an excellent Keystone RV.. wife and I were gett8ng ready to upgrade the old style Anderson 4 waynwater valve to the upgraded 3 way all brass valve when we noticed a hydraulic leak under the battery compartment.
Slides had been extended already for a day and no leaks all winter long stored at the house. It was just time and air rather find a failure like this at the house instead of in the road.
We removed one of the GC2 batteries to get a better look see and found a chaff on the DS slide out hyd line.. awesome.. now t9 figure out how they routed the line back to the backend where the hyd cylinder is.
Dropped a small 3 foot section edge of coroplast about 3 feet behind battery compartment to locate the line trace.. Was gonna drop the entire coroplast from back end cap almost up the the rear axle to gain good access but darn spare tire carrier is right in the way and I just didn’t wanna drop that ...
Loaded spare tire and made 3 sided cut about 18 inches wide to gain access to hyd cylinder fitting connection.. luck would have it that both rear slide hyd lines routed along OS and then one crosses over to DS slide cylinder...
Wife will help me pull the old line out tomorrow with a wire attached to one end to make pulling replacement line back thru underbelly up into battery compartment where line connects to shut off manifold assy
Will install new line and leak check and bleed.. simple process and then place coroplast back in place and seal with scrim tape..
New line being made at our local rurual NAPA with new JIC 37 degree fittings .. the replacement line of course is much better quality than OEM Lippert orange non conductive junk installed at factory. Makes no sense Keystone uses this crap instead of good quality braided hose..
Didn’t want to cut coroplast but a 3 sided cut up under spare tire area and then resealed is tons easier and smarter... to me then going the other route. And yes my coroplast is held up with hex headed SM self tapping screws.
A few pics of worn area on hyd line and access made to other end of hyd line... very last pic shows were we removed abut 3 foot of coroplast on OS of frame to reach up past the insulation and locate the correct line we were searching for
Nice thing is the lines are routed freely thru a few frame points and wife and I pulled on each end of hyd line and it pulls easily so reinstall shouldn’t be too tough. Maybe a coffee break or two during the process.
I am blessed at my age that I’m physically able to still do the work cause an RV shop would charge quite a bit I believe.

Would you by chance have the PM for the female connections and the barrel to connect them with?
Also the orange line is slightly different.. from what I've read in outside diameter compared to Black OEM line that Lippert uses....
Id have put a splice in the line since it was easily accessible at the leak point but Im not sure Id splice if it was under the coroplast since you can't see the splice fittings...
Thoughts?

Follow up on OEM Lippert hydraulic extend line with leak due to chaff spot. Repaired the correct way.. just as I would when I worked on aircraft.
New 2 strand braided line made at our local rural NAPA shop. Line is 28 feet long and the fella made new one for me in about ten minutes.
No splices for me.... Cost was $128...Took wife and I about 1.5 hours to remove old line, fish new line into belly and then leak check.. fluid lost about 1/2 cup..
New AW32 for reservoir cause it was due a change... works like a champ

Yup! I have an old Case construction king backhoe ..I have a few on hand because replacing the hoses is a big job..I take my hoses to Colliflower and they make up new ones for a reasonable price ..will be replacing all of them when I get around to it
If you have boats or tractors,wood splitters or anything with hydraulic hoses, find yourself a local hose and fitting repair shop ..they usually make it up while you wait and the fitting and adaptor section is enormous so you can usually make something work if need be

The splice fitting is nice to have on hand if you get a leak while on vacation otherwise you repaired it the right way But I have splice fittings on my backhoe that have been on there for years and I imagine the operating pressures are much higher

Well I generally carry several repair parts with me (usually stainless) but yes.
Replacing the hose is the proper repair, however having a splice available is better than sitting stuck for a week or more waiting on parts on a holiday.
Get it on the road and fix it when I get home..

If the Lippert OEM hose was standard type hydraulic hose.. which it isn’t then a splice repair would be as good as new in most cases
However... the OEM line is not standard .. it is not 1 or 2 strand braided and the outside diameter is 1/2 and presents an issue trying to reusable fitting.
And if the line is one that is buried up under the coroplast then no way I’d consider a splice no matter what.

It brings me back to the good old days when I work for the coal mine. The warehouse had a crimping machine for high-pressure and medium pressure hoses with all the fittings imaginable. The warehouse was full of spools of all diameters of gates hoses. The The coal mine would bring in representatives teach us to make there Gates hoses properly. I never ran short of the hoses for my crawler or wood splitter. They quit supplying the barbed twist on Fittings went inside the houses years ago even though they seem to work pretty good.
