Quick Release Pull Pin for Fifth Wheel Landing Gear
Has anyone ever had the Quick Release Pull Pin for the Landing Gear fail while on the road? Next year we are planning a trip about 6000 miles and these pins appear to be a weak link in the landing gear. A replacement set is about $33.00. It seems that it would be cheap insurance for possible problems. Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with these pins or if I am over thinking it.

I think you are overthinking this one, just make sure the pins are fully engaged before loading the landing gear. In an emergency if one of the pins were to come up missing or damaged an appropriately sized nut and bolt will work.

I can’t say I’ve ever lost or even bent a pin. As stated, just make sure they are fully inserted.

Grab some grade 8 bolts and nuts to keep around just in case.

We're new to owning a 5th wheel, but agree - shouldn't be an issue.
For $33, you could buy the spare set to have on hand. Doubt you'll have a failure though.

I've got a 10 year old "spare set" that I bought for a different fifth wheel that didn't have them on it. When we sold it, I removed them "to keep as a spare". In 15 years, I've never needed a spare... What I did need, was a spare shear pin for the landing gear cross bar. Hold your finger on the up or down button for a second too long (after the gear drive is at the travel limit) and you'll need a 5/16" Grade 5 bolt/nylock.
As others have said, chances of needing a replacement landing gear pin is not likely. Most are bolted on and spring loaded to stay in place.

Thanks for all of the responses I will mark that off my list, I don't need to carry any more than I actually need.
