This is a timely post. DW & I were out this a.m. and stopped at Walmart on the way home. I took a picture of the EV chargers that were installed several years ago. I go to and pass by this Walmart frequently. I have yet to see a single vehichle parked in any of those spaces. You can attach your own soundtrack of crickets if you wish.

Being a rural type, I have never seen a EV charging station at a Walmart. If you owned an EV, do you have to pay?

Yup .43/kwhr and a $4/month membership fee.

How many kwhr does it take to charge an EV that is supposed to be able to drive 400 miles on a charge? That is interesting. I suspect if I owned one, I would install my own charging station at home and not drive to Wallys and let the EV sit while it charged which I suspect would be awhile.

I don't know how many kwh it takes to charge an EV because I'm not interested but figure it's quite a few. Figure it's going to take a lot, then figure they are charging you about 4 times the going rate for a kwh PLUS a monthly fee and well....the EV owner's not coming out on the sweet end of the stick. At least you could charge it for 3 days, make a trip to Wally's then plug it back in and charge it for 3 more days.......Just don't forget the milk or you'll be going back in the truck.

The electric rate (residential) around here is about $0.11/kwh. Of course the amount of time and money would depend on battery capacity, SOC, and rate at which the supply the charge. Several variables that don't interest me as it takes but a few minutes to pump 30+ gal of diesel. I can't justify purchasing a new diesel truck and damned sure can't justify the cost of an EV.

Well I'll bet money that when and if they do come out with a 3500 or 350 one ton that my diesel version would make the trip from Jacksonville to San Francisco a lot faster than the electric version. Of course by then the powers that be in California will have banned the sale of diesel fuel so I guess I would have to stop at the border.

My neighbor has the Mach E Mustang, looks like a Tesla not a Mustang, that if plugged into a standard household plug nets 36 miles in 12 hours, plugged into 220v nets 72 miles in 12 hours, he opted for the 220v $800 rapid charger that nets full charge in 8 hours netting 250 miles.
Most of the charging stations already in place are Tesla only not universal. Can't see those clear enough that Marshall posted but if they say "Tesla" on the top that's all they're designed for.
I think they would be great as commuters in large cities where charging at home nightly would be doable, but until charge stations are as plentiful as gas/diesel stations they're not cross country capable.
