Looking at buying new set of tires

Tires on my 5th wheel. I looking at replacing them what’s my best choice? More then likely will have to order them.

Bob I think you meant ST 225/75/R15 E. The "E" designates a 10 ply sidewall rating (equivalency not actual). The two most favored seem to be Carlise Radial Tral HD and Goodyear Endurance. The Carlises are readily available (or can typically be delivered in a few days). I'm preparing to get my second set of the Carlise myself. Current set will turn 6 years old in a few months and have been problem free.

I agree with Marshall. I had the Carlisle Radial Trail HD tires and they didn't give me any problems at all. I believe it's been stated you can get them through Walmart so that may help.

We should soon hear from our tire savants and gain even more incredible tire knowledge. My opinion on tires is to get the ones that are round and black. +1 on the Carlisle brand.

I'm on my third set of Carlisle Radial Trail HD tires on my Cougar, also on the second set of RT HD's on my car hauler trailer, on the first replacement set on my boat trailer and on the replacement set on my aluminum Slingshot trailer. I change out ST tires on every trailer at 4 years of age.

To say (or suggest) that I'm satisfied with Carlisle Radial Trail HD tires is an understatement.

IMO, for what that might be worth, there are only two acceptable tire brands in the 225 75R15 LRD or LRE market. One is Carlisel Radial Trail HD and the other is Goodyear Endurance. I'd buy either and trust them.

The "reason" for my continued Carlisle purchases is strictly economics. Carlisle is about $40-50 less per tire. On a set of 4 tires, that's a $160-200 difference and for a set of 5, it's $200-250 per set.

That's enough of a difference for me to recommend the Carlisle brand over the Goodyear brand. YMMV

I've tried both the Carlisle and the Goodyear and while I had no problem with the GY I went back to the Carlisle after one set.
Just felt the Carlisle were a little better tire

The huge price difference between the GY & the Carlisle is the deciding factor for me.
Most buy the GYs due to they are supposedly made in America, who knows & their rv repair warranty if you have a blow out that does damage to your rv.
From people I've known that used that warranty stated there are stipulations. You don't call GY to say "I damaged my rv due to your tire blowing up", you must file a claim, return what's left of the tire carcass, GY will then evaluate that carcass to determine if it was a faulty tire or user error before any repairs are paid for or any tire reimbursement cost are covered. Is this true IDK, but was told by folks that used the warranty.
I suggest if that's the reasoning for paying nearly twice a much for the GYs to read the warranty very closely

Load range F means 95 psi. Make sure wheels can handle the pressure.

I put a set of their load range G on my rig 2 years ago. Been great tires.

Yes, I have the WalMart road hazard with free rotation, free balancing on all my Carlisle Radial Trail HD tires that I bought from WalMart. The set I bought from Amazon and had installed on wheels at WalMart they would not cover for road hazard.

Your current tire size and load capacity provides excess load capacity reserves. The ST225/75R15 tires are built by all ST tire manufacturers. Most brands should be readily available.

All the aluminum wheels (on Keystone trailers) that I've seen 15x6 5 lug are rated 2150 pounds and 15x6 6 lug rated 2830 pounds.

The "new cast Sendel wheels" that I just checked on their website, are rated
15x6 5 lug 2150@80PSI and the 15x6 6 lug are rated 3200@95PSI which is the same as their 16" 6 lug aluminum wheels. So apparently Sendel has changed their ratings in the past 6 months or so, since the last time I checked their website.

The 225 75R15 LRF "steel cased ST tire" is rated 121/117 which is 3197 single/2833 dual so the "new Sendel wheels" will work, with 3 pounds to spare... They are "6 lug only" though.

I don't know of any aluminum wheels rated higher than 2150 in 15" 5 lug castings.

I was at the Walmart down your way this week. Asked the tire dept there about balancing trailer tires with a stud centric adapter. The "tire manager" looked at me like my like dog would if I was playing rap music. The other guy behind the counter said they could only "spin balance them the regular way". I asked about steel bolt in valve stems and nope, only got "regular ones".

The manager asked me what tires I was intersted in. I told him him the Carlise Radial Trail HD 225/75 R15 E and gave him the Carlise part number. He looked them up and said they didn’t come in E, only in 10 ply. The prive would be $105 each.

I said I'd think about it and left. I have no confidence to go back. I'm going to order them online (probably from Amazon) and have them mounted and balanced elsewhere.

The only approved way to determine the maximum load capacity for Light Truck (LT) tires and Special Trailer (ST) tires is by the load range lettering system. The load index numbering system is used for all other tire designs.

We see load index numbers on LT & ST tires because that is the official medium for displaying the tire’s speed rating. Load index 97S is displaying the speed letter “S” for 112 MPH. Load index 117/112L is displaying the speed letter “L” for 75 MPH.

ST tires that do not display a speed rating default to 65 MPH. Maxxis is the only ST tire manufacturer I know of that does not identify a speed rating for their ST tires.

When the NHTSA tire rules committee made their final ruling for tire maximum load capacity identification in 2007 they confirmed that the Load Range lettering system would be the only medium for official recognition for LT & ST tires. Subsequent rules committee meetings have not changed that 2007 final rule. The 2007 document is still available for down loading. It’s lengthy and requires interface with references to other rules that are needed to make a whole rule work.

Tire manufacturers, builders and engineers know how to build and test tires. However, they may not know the rules and regulations that govern the use of their product.

Discount Tire will often price match WalMart's price. Also, DT has a military discount, so ask for both. Sometimes they will honor both, sometimes only one. I suppose it depends on how much profit they have in the sale...
