AC/Heat pump question...

Has anyone upgraded their ac unit to a ac/heat pump system? What are the benefits of the heat pump? Little lost in this area...

It's my understanding that you can't "upgrade" your present AC to include a heat pump, you need to replace your whole AC. If that's what you mean by an upgrade.

Heat pumps allow for the AC to basically run in reverse by switching the condenser and heat exchanger.

A economical way (you don't need to have a separate heating system) to heat the interior of your home or camper in mild climates. The reason I say mild climates is because they are not efficient at temps below 40 degrees and will run continuously and turn on their electrical heating element which can be expensive to run.

For example my home in NC relies on a heat pump (again part of the AC) to heat my home, when it's really cold out the electrical heat portion of the heater kicks in to produce enough heat to heat the house....increasing my electrical bill by quite a lot.
