Safety Recall 21V-708

Hi All,
Has anyone been contacted regarding the Winn-Tec Model 6020 propane regulator?
We received a notice last November, were told we'd be contacted when parts were available and haven't heard anything since.
Honestly, I didn't think about it over the winter and only remembered when we were in Ohio a few weeks ago and the temps were below freezing.
Fortunately, we haven't experienced any issue with the regulator, but obviously want to get the situation rectified.
Thanks in advance!

Many have swapped out their regulator. Here is a multi-page post on this forum related to the issue.

I would contact your dealer and see if you can get an appointment. An alternative would be to obtain a replacement and install it yourself, submitting appropriate documentation to Keystone for reimbursement. If you go that route I suggest you contact Keystone Customer Service first at (866) 425-4369.

OP,

No idea where you're located or how far you are from your "servicing dealership, but that needs to be considered in how you respond to this recall. The new regulator, if you buy it outright and install it will cost you around $100. If your dealership is 100 miles away, you'll probably need to tow the trailer to the dealer, leave it for a period of time (which means two trips), or possibly they can verify the need for a new regulator and you can tow the trailer back home.

That's a 200 mile trip, fuel for the trip, your time for the trip, wear and tear on your equipment for the trip, plus any other expenses such as an overnight camping site fee, meals, and anything you buy/spend on the trip....

Even if you live across town from the dealership, the costs and hassles of having them do the recall may be greater than "just doing it yourself"...

It may be cheaper, in the long run, to simply ignore the recall and fix it yourself, or seek reimbursement after you replace the defective regulator at your own expense.

The "wishful thing to happen" is for a smooth, cost free replacement, such as is suggested in the "recall letter"... The "sad reality" is that it may likely cost you more for the free replacement than buying one yourself and doing the job at home......

Thanks for the input guys!
I'll plan on contacting Keystone again, I've tried on the online service hotline, I'll try calling this time.
As John mentioned, the trip to the dealer and back would cost as much in fuel as the price of a new regulator, not to mention my time.
Thanks markcee, I'll spend some quality time reading through that thread.

I simply bought mine online, complete with new pigtails, and replaced it myself all for about $80 if I recall. Then I contacted Keystone, filed the necessary paperwork and they reimbursed me for my time and material.

I just checked Ebay and they have one with pigtails for $60 now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Stage-Aut...-127632-2357-0

If you are going for reimbursement...and this may depend on who you speak with at Keystone....take pics of the old regulator. Even though I had a recall notice, the CS rep I worked with requested it. I couldn't supply it as I had my issue and replaced and discarded the defective regulator prior to even getting the notice. She ultimately had to get that OK'd by a supervisor. To avoid delay, you may as well take a pic before you pitch the old one. Looking at my emails from them, they also requested a pic that included the old regulator's serial number.

Finally, take a pic of the new purchase installed and of course save your eBay invoice. All that will need to be provided to Keystone.

Also, I believe it was NHBulldog that even 'charged' Keystone 1 hour of labor on his claim, that they reimbursed - very smart!

Again, others may have different details on what they had to send to Keystone, but this is what the gal I worked with wanted.

Though we just recently purchased our 2018 Passport I was going over everything and noticed a propane smell around the tanks from where I had opened them about an hour prior. Opened the cover and smell was strong so I grabbed the right pigtail hose at the regulator and propane started spewing out. shut both tanks off and ordered a new regulator w/pigtails from Amazon for $38. I'll have it on Thu...not going to f around with leaking propane components.

Our TT wasn't included in the propane recall by model # or year but I checked mine anyway. It was audibly leaking. Ordered the flame king regulator on Amazon, 2 pigtails, and the main hose. The regulator was on backorder so took a month to arrive, but after replacing all parts, I'm glad I did. One less thing to worry about for less than a $100.

markcee, Thanks for the solid advice. This will be my plan.

Socaldave, Good catch. That could have been bad.

Weldon, Glad you caught the leak.

Meanwhile, I just got an update on my . Was supposed to be here tomorrow, now it's Monday. As long as it's here before Memorial Day, we're fine.

The New regulator showed up today.
Now I just need a break in the rain to install it before we leave on Friday.
Might need some heat over Memorial Day Weekend.

I replaced the regulator yesterday.
I called Keystone this morning and explained the situation.
They had me email the information, as others had predicted.
Now the wait is on!

Thanks again for all the support!

I took the same route of buying the ebay regulator posted above, took pics of old, and new installed but then was going to contact Keystone and the W-9 thing made me hesitate are others having to fill this out?

I have my camper for sale and didn't want to have a new buyer deal with the recall.

Side note anyone want to buy the camper?

Original Recall didn't include our rig (2020 Cougar 24sabwe) per Keystone & dealer. Checked 2 more times in 2020 & 2021, nope.
Then in Jan 2022 get the notice in the mail, yup.
1,800 mi from dealer.
Found local (80 mi) dealer to do it.
Could do it myself, local propane distributor is a friend, he would do it, both of our sons are mechanics could do it.
Instead took it to the dealer so we could also slosh clean all the tanks.

After getting back to the CG, discovered the furnace nolonger roared loud & soft since the regulator now controls the pressure properly.

Regulator recall

I have a Keystone Passport and also received the recall letter last winter. I contacted my dealer and asked about what I needed to do. They advised I needed to bring it in and they would verify and replace the regulator. Due to it being a 4 hour round trip to tow it there, I asked if it could be sent to me and I would replace it? I am qualified to replace as I am a retired licensed plumbing contractor. They said no, that it had to be done by the dealer. So with that I contacted Keystone customer service and explained my situation to them. She asked that I take a photo of the data on the regulator and submit to them which I did. The lady was very understanding an she agreed to send me the new regulator. Got it a few days later and took about 45 minutes to replace and bleed the lines.

Update.
Yesterday, I received notice that parts are available, call the dealer, blah blah blah.
I call Keystone to check on my reimbursement.
Now they want me to fill out a W-9.

Did any of you who were reimbursed fill one out?
I'm not real thrilled about the thought of sending out the info the form is asking for.

EDIT: I see legger99 feels the same way about the W-9.

Being that it's Thunder and Lightning here right now, I'm really not wanting to go out in it but, does anyone have a photo of this Regulator or how I can Identify "If" I have one? Being that we just got this 5er second hand. Thanks.

This might help: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/202...1V427-2508.pdf

Page 3 shows the picture and date codes, and page 2 has approved replacements.
