Back up camera install
I want to install a back up camera on our 22MLSWE. It has the pre wire but not the Furrion mounting bracket. It’s just a round cap holding the wires on the back side.
I’m going to have to drill holes in the back panel to mount it. What type of screws should I use? Sheet metal? And should I use any type of anchor, like the plastic ones? Or just screw into the wall?
I know to use clear silicone around the bracket and all holes. :-)
Thanks.

I would NOT use silicone anywhere on an trailer exterior. If I were you, I'd buy a roll of BUTYL putty tape from an RV supplier or parts dealer and put it in a ziplock baggie for storage (to keep it relatively clean and dry). Use that under the mount, then use DICOR non-leveling sealant around the edges, or buy a tube of Proseal or Proflex sealant to run your "sealing bead".
Silicone, once cured, can't be easily cleaned off the surface and NOTHING will stick to cured silicone, not even more silicone. So "avoid silicone based sealants" at all costs anywhere you may need to "reseal or apply additional sealants"....

If your using a Furrion camera it should come with the mount. There is a rubber gasket that covers the entire back of the mount and no sealant is needed or used on the edges. If the camera didn’t come with mounting screws, we use Roberts head #8 screws 1 1/2” long with a painted black head.

JRTJH: It looks like silicone sealer around the cap on there now, so that’s what I thought was used. Glad I mentioned it. :-)
Chuckster57: Yes, we’re leaning toward the Furrion camera. I’ll look for the screws you mentioned.
Thank you both for the replies.

Geocel, Proflex & Dicor sealants appear very similar to silicone, but if resealing is needed it will stick to itself so no removal is necessary.

I recently installed Haloview MC7108 backup camera system and used a very basic Ram Mount so it's adjustable. I secured it with 4 #8 SS self-drilling screws and sealed the 4 holes with a dab of Dicor in each hole. To cover the factory hole I put a piece of 4" wide Eternabond tape over the factory hole where the power wire came out. Took all of about 10 minutes and she's all sealed up and water tight. Works and looks great too.

Should've mounted it below the clearance light! While driving at night all you're going to see is a red glare from that clearance light.

It doesn't have any glare from the running lights at night that I can see. I experimented with double-stick tape before deciding on location and I ended up mounting it so the antenna is above the roof-line. When the antenna was below the roof-line the video suffered delays. I placed it there 5 months ago and it is working great. I've been about 6,000 miles and no issues. Edit: And it has a 4" Ram Mount arm and each end has a 1" Ram Mount ball so it's about 6" to 7" off the rear wall.

I have a 2022 Hideout 290QB that is prewired for a backup camera. However, after taking off the cover there were no wires, just a piece of wood. I’m assuming they fell off the clip at some point. Any suggestions? I tried fishing around a bit to locate the wires with no luck.
