Cable TV, I quit.

The few times we have camped in places with cable TV I have tried it. Depending on the campground I get lots of snow on all channels to a few, very few, clear channels and snow on the rest.

Our last outing the CG had full hookups and once again I tried the CTV. Unwatchable.
I have pulled the connector on the back of the TT and checked it. Tight.
I've pulled the booster unit out and checked all the connections and they are all OK.
I've tried 3 different cables between the TT and the CG service box.
The TV works fine with the antenna.
What's left? Could the booster be bad? Is the TV itself defective?
Maybe some idiot at the factory put a staple through a cable and how could I check that?

I give up. Antenna is fine.

Maybe a "silly question" but are you "changing the TV mode and rescanning the TV" ??? Also, what year is the trailer? Does it have the KeyTV system or the Winegard TV booster system?

First, in case you don't know, the booster must be off when using cable.

For testing run a cable through the window and connect directly to the television. If that works you have an issue with the RV wiring.

Been there, fixed that, assuming that as everyone will ask, you know how to program a tv and which way the booster bottom should be - off. A bad booster will cause snow on all channels. Last test should be cable from Campground feed into camper, pull out booster and connect directly to the tV feeds with a female/female connector, if good signal then the booster is bad.

Don't know what year your unit is but I recall reading maybe 2 or 3 years ago that Keystone was using tvs that did not have a cable tuner built in. If you can't get it to work with a cable from the cg box directly to the TV then Google your TV make and model to find out.

2016 Passport 195RB.
Yes, I know to not push the red button.
Yes, I'm changing the TV to cable and running a scan.
I've never had a long enough cable to go from the CG box through a window and onto the TV. Maybe I'll buy a couple of barrel connectors for my 3 cables.

Now that the TT is in winter storage I have thought about pulling the TV and testing it but I don't have cable TV at home so.....

Rob,

They make all kinds of lengths for coax that you can purchase as best I know, or, do what I did and go to the local cable company and have them make you a cable of whatever length you want. Not expensive ($0) but I knew the manager.

I can understand making sure EVERYTHING works.
But you don't have cable at home? Yet your worrying about having it camping?

I just came back from a camping trip and during the trip I noticed the cable tv section of the tv didn't work. The outside antenna worked perfectly.

The campground owner lent me a tv and it worked fine? Couldn't be a Key tv issue or cabling.

I'm returning the tv tomorrow as a matter of fact, for a new one.

Just remember if you have a smart tv reset the tv back to factory specs otherwise aĺ your passwords for the different apps will remain.

I've found most campground cable sucks, if I can get some channels from antenna it's much better.

That's a thought. I unmount the TV and bring it over to a friend's house who has cable.

No way to test the cable connection at the dealership when I bought it.

I don't worry about it but we have been in places where there was no antenna service but they did have cable. Plus it's free.
At home I have an antenna and get 34 stations, for free. I also have an over the air DVR which I own.

You already have the mindset @linux3. Just stick with OTA. With DTV nowadays it's fantastic, but you already know this. Just sudo rm -rf * that cable hookup.

Edit - Over 9 years since last post. I guess I should update that forum sig. :-D

I think Customer1 already mentioned it, but the booster must be OFF if you are running cable in from a campground provided cable service. The only time the booster is used is if you are using the external antenna on the roof.

THIS! You must turn off the antenna booster to watch cable, then make sure the TV is set to cable and scan for channels.

Connect direct to TV

Try pulling the cable through a window and connecting directly to TV. There's something funky with the wiring in our rig and we have to do it that way.

I think that's a great idea, pull the TV take it to a local Campground and hook it up. I don't think any Campground owner is going to mind that you drive in just to test out your system. Come next summer, You're ready to go either with the same TV or a new one. Or you can move to California where it's summer all the time :-)
