propane regulator
Well I want to put the remote changeover indicator
inside the trailer so I would know when one tank
was empty without having to check the tank all
the time.
I had to buy a new regulator that would work with
the Marshell indicator so I bought one from
RV Truck Parts they sent wrong regulator
sent back no problem, I wanted a Marshell 254-00
regulator today I got a Marshell 250 model does
anybody know if that is the same as the 254-00
I tried looking on line put in 250 model both 250
and 254 come up 254 has z bracket that's the only
differences I can see.

I just replaced my regulator on my Cougar HC-291RLS-11 a few days ago. Couldn't get the original one to go above 6.5" WC, it was a Fairview. Furnace doesn't work in the cold at that gas pressure. Purchased a Marshall 254-00, tested it after install 12.7" WC. YEAH.
What I have been able to find is the difference between the 250 and the 254 is the rated BTU, 254 is rated higher. They look identical on the outside.

don't know about the difference but here is what to look for. On the 254 there is a black plastic cap on the top where the red/green indicator is for full/empty. When you remove the cap there is a small hole in the top of the regulator that the plunger from the changeover indicator will fit into and it's black cap pops on to replace the factory cap. If the 250 has this same system, it may work with the changeover indicator. From the marshal site they seem to indicate the changeover indicator system ONLY works with the 254. Hope this helps. the changeover indicator is one of the "now that I have it, how did I get by without it" kind of things. really slick.!!

well I called marshell asked them about the valve I receved
was a 250 marked on the back they said the 250 254 same
thing I installed it put the remote indicator on works great

I’ve looked at the description for these, but I need someone to use small words to answer this:
If I replace whatever brand propane switch valve with the Marshell 254, will it switch tanks automatically? Does it need a power source?

Yes it will switch automatically, and no power is needed.

Thanks! Like others, I don’t want to go outside at 1am to switch it over, which seems to be when the furnace finishes off a tank.

Hi thanks for the review. Next question, it states it will warn you when you switch to the reserve tank. Cool. When you move the switch on the change over valve so the reserve is now primary does the yellow indicator stop flashing? I would hope so then you can remove the empty tank, fill and replace, then get warned when the new primary goes dry.

It will warn you with a flag, but if your tanks are under a cover, you won't see it anyway. I just open one tank at a time and let it run out completely. Then I switch over and have the empty one refilled. It's no big deal to manually switch to a fresh tank and I don't get a surprise in the middle of a cold weather trip.

to answer the question about when you flip the changeover switch, does it reset. The answer is yes!
I had this setup in my last TT and was great. If you do any long term stays where you hook up an external 100lb cylinder, what I found was in cold weather, the indicator would start flashing about a day before the 100lb cylinder went empty wen the furnace started up (heavy pressure draw).
I knew just about when to swap the 100 lb cylinders out.
It was also nice to know when you switched tanks so you could go fill the empty one.
My new rig has a diffferent type of regulator so I'm looking at alternatives. I found another system but it is pricey.
