converter

why does my converter keep kicking on and off when im hooked to campground power?

Because your lights, radio, detectors, vent fans etc are 12 volts..

What your probably hearing is the fan for the heat sink. As you turn on more 12V stuff it puts a higher demand on the converter, causing more heat and the fan works harder to dissipate that heat.

where should the battery disconnect switch be while on shore power?

In the position to allow the batteries to charge. Quick check is to use a volt meter at the battery When plugged into shore power it should read 13+ VDC.

If your converter is kicking on a lot you should change you lights to LED if you haven't - makes a big difference.

Since we replaced all the inside 12 volt bulbs with LED's, we rarely see or hear the converter cooling fans running, but the converter is still working, just not so much to need the fans running. If the fans are running, it's a pretty sure thing that your converter is working, which is a good thing.
