Has anyone stay at Oak Plantation in Charelston SC

Just booked a site at Oak Plantation in Charelston and was wondering if anyone has stayed at this park. It has descent reviews, a few bad ones but that is to be expected, you can't please everyone. We will be there in mid April for Easter. Can anyone give me an ideal what we may expect for weather and temps. We are coming from western NY so I'm pretty sure we will be in for much nicer weather then here. Thanks for any help

We stayed at Mount Pleasant/Charleston KOA for three days in 2013, and it was really beautiful. It's on the grounds of an old antebellum plantation with access to Oakland Plantation. We were there to visit the U.S.S. Yorktown (home from 1966 to its decommissioning). They have a beautiful walking trail and lots of activities related to the Oakland Plantation. The alligator warning signs were a bit disturbing, but I guess that's SC for you!

We've stayed there several (more than six) times over the last two years. No sign of any of the 'crazy person on the golf cart' of any of that type of 'stuff'. Not the most scenic campground, but it was rather quiet and convenient to all of the Charleston area.

Last summer, it suffered another severe flood. We stayed there two days after; we could see NO signs of damage to the campground (but the workers showed us the water level marks on the office building). We did see damage around the area, but you couldn't tell the campground was affected.

My recommendation is to use your facilities as the ones in the campground are well, below par. We use our own, so it is no big deal to us.

We used to live in upstate NY, so you'll LOVE the weather in Charleston in April. Probably around the mid 70s. You just can't beat that!

We have two weeks planned there this summer, so we definitely recommend it.

Can't wait for this white stuff to get the heck out of here!!!

OT - Chilhowie!!! I love the name of that town. Daughter has a friend from school who is from there. Used to stop at the Hardees off I-81 sometimes going down to visit at Emory.

Ok, back to the regularly scheduled program.

Laughing.... I'm shocked to know that someone has actually heard of this one-red-light town! Then again, Emory is smaller!

Cheers!

LOL, yeah, Emory doesn't even have a light. But they now have a Macado's...and finally something on the forever blank "what's at this exit" blue sign.

We have wintered in Charleston the last four years and Oak Plantation is one of our options. It is fine for a few days. We stay at the military famcamps when available but have stayed at Oak Plantation and James Island several times. Oak Plantation is on the Savannah Highway which gets very congested during rush hours. Its also a ways from downtown. Doesn't really matter where you stay in Charleston; the traffic is horrible everywhere, especially since Boeing moved in. Mosquitos are also bad in warm months, which is about 10 or 11 of them in Charleston.

Do you know if you need to be military or retired military to stay at the campgrounds on base. We have a son stationed at joint base Charelston and I was under the understanding you have to be military to uses the campgrounds. Thanks for the reply and thanks for any help you can give me

springdale1,

Each installation establishes its own rules of eligibility. At JB Charleston, you can stay as a guest, that's not true at ALL famcamps.

There is no requirement for the military member to "own" the RV in order to park it at the famcamp. If your son is a military member (not a civilian employee) at JB Charleston, he can reserve a site for your RV. It will be in his name and he will have to be present to sign you into the famcamp. Depending on the security alert status, you may have problems getting on and off the installation without him present. During "normal security status" you should be able to get onbase with just the visitor's pass and your driver's license. If, however, the base goes "on lockdown", you won't be able to re-enter the base without authorization, which likely will mean that he will have to physically escort you back onbase. That's a security matter based on military caution, not just to make life miserable....

You can find information about the famcamp here: http://www.jbcharleston.com/foster-creek/ and http://www.militarycampgrounds.us/so...on-afb-rv-park There, in the reservations section it states: "Authorized Users: Active, National Guard, Reservists, Retired, 100% DAV, DOD Civilians, Guests." Contact your son and ask him to get information from the famcamp office for you.
