Timbrens? Yes or no?

So I have looked at all the threads and I still need some advice. MY TT doesn't sag the truck that much, but I want to make the set up the best it can be. I just added LT tires so obviously they will help and honestly even with the "P" tires I can't complain. I have not had the TT hooked up yet with the LT tires so I will definitely hook the rig up before I make another move. Either way I am going to hold off until I hook up and suss everything out. In my mind I am thinking the light Timbrens should be perfect for me. The only time I would ever need suspension help is while towing the TT. Any thoughts?

Never used Timbrens and know no one that has but I think the concept is great. Would like to hear from someone that has used both Timbrens and air bags.

If you are not sagging much when loaded I'd be looking at going to LT tires on the TV 1st. Just my 2 cents... never saw a reason for P rated tires on a truck.

I have the timbrens on the front and rear of my truck, front for the plow rear for the 5r. They work awesome but they do make the ride a bit bouncier. The suspension has less free travel because the timbrens. I wanted something to help stop the sagging but didn't want all of the lines, wires, and long install of air bags and a compressor, it took all of 30 min to install the front and rear timbrens, set and forget.

I love my Timbrens! No air to mess with and when the bed is empty they don't affect the ride. I highly recommend them to all my friends!

Had Timbrens in my prior TV (2009 Silverado 1/2 ton), they were perfect! Stabilized the rear end when towing, did not experience any "bouncing" and rarely was aware of the unloaded. Once I go to a bigger trailer, if I need something to keep it level, would not hesitate to buy another pair. Inexpensive and maintenance free.

When I had a 150, my WDH took care of any sag so I never used anything else.

Put a set Timbrens on our late '04 6.0 F-250. That suspension was so bad that the Timbrens would touch the axle when unloaded and would squish down bout an 1" & 1/2 or so when the TT was attached. Haven't added any extra suspension help to our '13 HD F-150 as it rides level with the 5er attached, but do get the occasional bottoming out when truck goes over an uneven surface like a bridge or a sudden dip in the road. Have had thoughts on adding a set of Timbrens but ..... haven't made that leap yet.

I like Timbrens simplicity. A few bolts and they are installed in 20-30 minutes with no adjustment required. For me, they just work in the background without any fiddling.

The key to success with Timbrens in my experience is to not install the included spacer. Unloaded, you have to have enough suspension travel for the Timbrens to not make contact or the ride will be rough.

When loaded, the Timbrens need to make a preloaded contact or the ride will be rough when they do make contact on a bump. It also helps to have good shocks with appropriate compression and rebound damping. I'm currently running Bilstein shocks (the zinc coated versions, I think 5100's) and am very pleased with the performance. I have yet to find really good, stock shocks on pickups that don't have deteriorating performance in a relatively short time.

The other advantage is having a robust rear sway bar installed. All this combined with quality LRE LT tires at 80 PSI makes for a capable tow.

Are Timbrens similar to air bags as far as stability and leveling are concerned?

They are similar in the fact they help prevent body roll and rear end sag, but different as far as they require no maintenance. just install and they are not active when unloaded, but then get engaged by adding weight to the truck. It is a very passive system that only works when you need it.

My new 5er has 3100 lbs pin and sets about 3/8 from my overload springs making contact with the stops. What I was getting was hitting a dip I was getting rebound upwards when the overload springs made contact. I look at timbers but they won't solve the problem so I went with airbags with 20lbs in them.

Why wouldn't the Timbrens work? I haven't purchased yet because I want to hook the trailer up and see where I'm at with the factory stops. I'm clueless, so I'm just asking. I assume you have enough clearance to install the Timbrens when you are unloaded? So once you hook up you will already be sitting on the Timbrens which is what you want? That is the big reason I'm waiting until I pull the TT out of storage. I want to make sure I'm in constant contact with Timbrens once I'm hooked up so I don't get any "hard" slap.

I see now you have F150 and they don't have overload springs like the F350. The 350 overloads don't make contact till somewhere north of 3200 lbs. The timbers won't make contract to closer to the max load of 3700 lbs. My problem was the rebound upward of the over load springs. I use the air bags to get some clearance between the over springs stops so stays off the over loads. Your F150 you won't have that problem.

OK, that makes sense. Thank you for the info.

I have Timbren's on my F-250, and love them, at first they where just barely touching the bump stop arm on the axle, I though it's okay and I could live with it. But the ride quality was too springy, so I emailed Timbren, sent them a picture of the issue, and within a few days I had shorter springs from them that fix perfect. It is a great product, it's a install and forget item which is what I like, no messing around with air and much more cost effective for me atleast.

I bought mine off Amazon, and the price was less than $200 for the kit

I had timbrens on my 2013 Ram 1500. They took out all the squat and made it ride flat and level under load. Loved them ..... worked great with TT. When normal driving without a load on the suspension, the timbrens wouldn't actually touch the springs so they had no affect on the fantastic ride you get in your 1500. The only time I could tell they where there was when I hit a speed bump with any speed.

Don't need them on my 2011 Ram 2500 suspension is already stiff enough and I added air bags.
