Atwood water heater

My sons 2008 Aerolite tt, it has a Atwood water heater and he left water in the summer time in it. Now the water smells. Would it be ok to put bleach water in to it to try and kill the smell or is there some thing else I should try. If I do the bleach I'll flush it out real good. Thanks for any help. DDG
