Pigeons in storage

I have a 55' covered Rv storage at my house. But no matter what I do I can't keep the pigeons from roosting on the roof of my rig! I think I've actually seen them perching on the head of the fake owl I used. Today I hung some metallic streamers and ordered a fake owl with flapping wings to hang as well.

Any other suggestions? My next step is to try to net off the openings - but that is a huge project.

Thanks!

Chicken wire stapled to the bottom of the rafters?

I've heard of limited success with a rubber snake, but if the owl doesn't do it, the snake might not either. Try scattering some feathers, and dried chicken bones around your owl.

Good Luck!

I have used owl decoys at home to keep birds away from deck and spa. And at the beach house to keep birds from nesting. They will work but, only for a short time unless your willing to move them weekly. I worked with farmers using decoys of coyotes, bald eagles. In big open grain fields. They all work but, need to be moved around or birds no longer care. Chicken wire placed over anything they can land and or nest is a long term fix.

Benjamin .177 pump pellet gun, lawn chair and your favorite adult beverage.

Leave the dead ones scattered about.

Kinda like the first boy that comes to date your daughter

The cops don't like firearm discharges, at least in my neighborhood and poison is pretty indiscriminate. You can regulate the muzzle velocity on the Benjamin and they are deadly accurate.

I Agree, then would pluck feathers and spread around and also leave carcass so we would have dried skeletons to mark the no land zone for the future intruders.

Closest thing to this problem I have encountered was a seagull applying UV protection to my shower sky light.

Move and don't leave a forwarding address. Pigeons can't read very well so I've heard.

As someone who is a pigeon fancier, (due to health concerns I can no longer have them) As stated owls, snakes noise makes and other course of action will not work long term due to the fact that they will get used to them and no longer be afraid. Moth balls are suppose to be good to repel the birds but not sure what damage they can do to your RV garage. As mentioned I think chicken wire wrapped or tied to the rafters will work well. Wish you luck in your situation.

Thanks for all of the replies! Got a new owl that is supposed to move a bit - hung some reflective streamers from the roof (that was a waste of time) - and the next step is some netting to close off all the openings.

My dad mentioned that he had a problem at his home and inadvertently chicken wired one into the eaves of his house. It subsequently expired there - and something about that death has kept him pigeon free for years now. I just need to get me a dead one

Thanks again - if I find the miracle solution, I'll be sure to post

Maybe there is a high side to this. I have a couple of friends in LA that LOVE pigeons in soups. They go so far as to take ladders and take them from their nests for cooking purposes. Just don't stir the bottom of the pot. On the other hand, the pellet gun should work. Good luck!

Off topic, but it seems that the more we buy our meat on Styrofoam trays wrapped in cellophane, the less we think about "what used to be"... My DW refuses to allow "fresh caught fish" into her kitchen until it's put on that Styrofoam tray... Well, not really, but almost

Squab is a delicacy in many places and there are still a number of recipes floating around. My grandmother used to bake them with sweet potatoes and spices and serve them with fried green tomatoes and bell squash. Of course there was the "obligatory" cornbread scones baked in the shape of corn cobs, not to be confused with the round cornbread that didn't have extra sugar....

Seems there ought to be a "purpose" for all those pigeons besides their contribution to the trailer roof......
