Angry toilet issue

Our toilet does not hold water, it will fill up about 3 inches or so after flushing but that usually leaks out within an hour. We had the seal and ball replaced and it seems to improve it but it still leaks out. It is a porcelain toilet, I think Sealand is the manufacturer. Any thoughts or ideas?

How old is the trailer, when did you have the seal and ball replaced?

Found this on another site.

Lube the seal. I have found when the water does not stay, the issue is most likely the valve is not closed completely. To test this, open and close the valve, with the valve closed (foot off the pedal), try pushing the valve close with your hand. If it moves a little, (say about a 1/4 inch) then the valve was not closed. Leave the valve in this position, if the water stays after you pushed the valve then the seal is okay. If this is the case, lubing the seal will correct the issue. I use high dollar 303 spray lube and water stays all day / night.

I was going to say this as well. The new seal, despite being new, may still be a little rigid for whatever reason. Lube it and see if that helps. The lubricant may swell the seal just enough to make it tight again or allow the valve to close completely.

Yes sometimes you need to pull up on the foot pedal or whatever to fully close it, it can be a pain but you either get use to it or or try to adjust the pedal/handle so it closes completely. Good luck.

I coat my seal with petroleum jelly about 1x month and that has always worked for me. Oh yeah, you may want to don a latex glove for the task and make sure both sides of the seal are coated.

In the past we have had members suggest pouring a little vegetable oil into the bowl after the water had drained and working it into the seal. When winterizing I find that the pink stuff drains out after a few days. If I then put an ounce or two of oil in it will still be there in the spring. The vegetable oil will not harm the rubber seal like petroleum based lubes can. JM2˘, Hank

Clean the seal real good with a toilet brush, then apply a little O-ring silicone lubricant and you're good to go.. We do it every time we shut the camper down. Never had the bowl leak down since I started doing this.

rvRoadRunner, Howdy;

Had to replace my seal during the summer, even a slight misalignment will
mean it will leak, I scrub mine with each flush and I still, at times, have
seepage. Different techniques to get it to function as it is supposed to.
Basic realization that nothing is perfect helps...

Wow, all great information folks. I will try those things. I especially like the part about maybe the valve not being closed all the way. I have noticed that sometimes it does not leak out which is a big indicator that the valve may not be closing all the way.

Thanks so much!

Sealand is the parent company for Dometic toilets. The owner's manual, on page 2 devotes quite a bit of space to the problem of "my toilet won't hold water". There are specific instructions on how to "reseat" the ball flange seal. Occasionally that seal will deform and not properly hold water. There's an "APP" for that, called a pan of hot water. Instructions are included in the owner's manual. If that won't work, it's a simple "one for one" exchange that can be done without removing the toilet. First, I'd follow the instructions on how to "reseat" the rubber seal, then coat it with your choice of "lubricant" (oil, silicone, Vaseline, etc) and if it still won't hold water, then simply replace it.

Here's the link to the owner's manual: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...ouV50nMJXkrg7g

toilet issue

The RV is a 2006 Keystone Montana. I had the seal and ball replaced about 2 weeks ago.

If it was replaced that recently, I'd suggest you follow the instructions on how to "reseat the seal" by using your fingers and then "form the seal" by using hot water and follow that with a good coating of your choice of lubricants. That should stop your leaking.

I was always told to use baby oil in the winter as other oils can turn and go rancid.

We put a touch of cheap fabric softener in between flushes , It seals good and smells better than anything plus keeps the tank walls lubricated.
