Jim,
there are lots of CG's in and around that area. My daughter goes to school up that way. We spent the better part of a Saturday during the rain driving and visiting a lot of them. Most are small and have trailers that have been placed on site for weekend retreats. Some are nice and some are not so nice. We found one that is near Cherokee or an the way that sits on the Tuckasegee River and the railroad tracks for the Smokey Mountain Railway that runs past it on the other side that we liked. Back in spots on the river or the rail way?
It was one of the few I felt like my 5er would fit and I was comfortable staying over night. Dont get me wrong I saw several I liked but would be more of a popup type campground or smaller RV. In and around Cherokee there are 15 plus campgrounds I think. Check this out.http://visitcherokeenc.com/stay/cabins-and-campgrounds/.

Heading to Cherokee......

I would also like to hear of any good or bads from recent camp-overs from the campgrounds in or around Cherokee, NC. Most of the reviews are old, and things change. Looked online at Yogi in the Smokies... and the Moonshine Creek campground..... just can't tell much about them online.....

Thanks!

Just got back from Moonshine Creek campground and found it to be a very nice place indeed.

Sites are a little close together but there is plenty of shade and most sites have the creek just a few feet from rear to the sites.

Most sites are back in's and are easy to get into, although there are some really sharp turns within the campground just go slow. The campground hosts will show you to your site and assist you whether you need it or not.

The only bad thing about the campground is its location in a valley! No TV reception and cell/data reception is sometimes non existant.

All in all a pretty place to set up shop for a week or two.
