California-Oregon Trip

We are looking to make resi's at Durango RV Park in Red Bluff CA and then off to Prospect RV Park in Oregon. Has anyone stayed at these parks? Or are there any other recommendations to stay?

Haven't stayed in Red Bluff. We did stay one night at the Mountain Gate RV park (In Mountain Gate) Nice, clean park. Really friendly staff. Right off the hwy. $32 for large pull thru w/ fhu. Haven't stayed in Prospect but have reservations for after Labor Day to do the Crater Lake thing. Don't know about Prospect RV Park (also called Crater Lake RV Park) except what is on the web.

I have some friends who have stayed at the Prospect RV park and they said it was fine...and they are a bit picky. If you do stay there, be sure to go see Avenue of the Boulders and the Mill Creek Falls. Ask anyone in Prospect and they will give you directions. Both are easy walking to.

Haven't stayed at Durango but it is just down the highway from us and is only 4-5 years old. Just off I-5 and right on the Sacramento River. Looks well maintained and stays pretty busy so that says something for it. It is new so there is very little shade provided by all the trees they have planted. Not much to do or see in Red Bluff but there are a few good restaurants.

Durango if fine and new but right on the freeway so if you don't mind the noise... otherwise check out Red Bluff RV Park. Easy access from the freeway but much quieter. It's older but very nice. We used to stay there often when leaving Klamath Falls, OR and heading south.

We are going to try out this Mountain Gate. Have been planning with our group, should be a fun trip. I have been trying to find out some info on this route, has anybody done this route from CA to Crater Lake? How are the roads? Are there any steep grades or nail biting roads I should be aware of??

We have stayed several times at the Sycamore Campground right on the river and very quiet. It is about one mile from the hiway to the east. It is a federal cg so it is about half the cost of Durango and has full hookups available.

Thanks for the recommendation on Sycamore Glen. Checked it out and already made a reservation for an overnight on our trip between Grants Pass OR and Auburn CA. Looks like the perfect midway stop.

Good to hear. We have 4 nights planned there right after Labor Day. To Hoffbrew. Hey 97 from Weed to the Crater Lake turnoff is good road. A little narrow in spots with no shoulders. No problem for semi's. Haven't been that way since about 2004 though. Heck, it might be freeway!

Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort was also recommended. Instead of just an overnight stop, we are going to turn into a 2 day stop for Mt.Shasta.

According to my 2014 Motor Carriers' Road Atlas, Hwy 97 from Weed to Klamath Falls is a good truck route, no clearance issues, and The Good Sam trip routing doesn't mention any severe grade issues. For the Lake Siskiyou Resort & CG, make sure you get reservations early. Apparently, they are very busy in season and fill up most of the time. We are attending the MOC Rally there the 21st to the 28th of May, and they are booked solid during those dates, but for a couple of days they may have space.

Gettn ready for this trip... Are there truck stops/Flying J's around this area? I hear I can not pump my own gas? Is this at every station even truck stops?

From what I read on other forums, the pumping rule in Oregon applies to gasoline only, not diesel. That being said, I also read that many stations will not let you pump your diesel either, and they have that option. I have been to both, but if you want diesel and they want to pump it, just make sure you see the correct nozzle being inserted into your tank fill. We are enroute tomorrow from Fresno to Oregon, a stopover somewhere north of Redding, so I'm sure we will see both.

Water level is very low. Still a fun boat ride and caverns were awesome.

Landed in Prospect OR today. What a scenic route this was.. Awesome! Took 5 to 97 then on hwy 62, nice smooth road with minor grades, nothing tuff. Going to Crater Lake for lake tour and Wednesday for jet boat river run. Prospect RV Park is nice, secluded in the mountains. No cell service or cable tv and said satellite reception is hit n miss. Power water and sewer all good.

It's going to be hard to leave, OR is some great land. Views and scenery are breath taking. We are taking different route home so I will let you know how that goes. The "no" cell or electronic service was great! It's too bad that we depend on these devices. All families have had a great time, even did some Squatch Hunting!
