Towing Question

Currently have a 2013 Suburban LT 1500 and recently purchased a cougar 28RBSWE. Is the suburban ok to tow this? New to towing. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum and to Keystone RVing.

To adequately answer your question we would need to know what optional equipment packages (HD towing, upgraded suspension, wheels, tires, payload, GVW, GCWR and axle ratio you have on your suburban.

Realize that your Cougar has a GVW of about 8000 lbs, so it's no "lightweight" trailer. It is also important to know how many passengers and how much cargo you intend to carry in the suburban because that will dramatically affect what's left of your payload to carry the tongue weight of your trailer.

Provide the requested equipment and I'm sure someone will run the numbers for you and offer their thoughts.

Again, welcome to the forum.

Another point to consider with the 28RBS is a very hefty tongue weight. The tongue tips in at 955 lbs dry. Loaded full of gear, my 28RBS has a tongue weight of 1300 lbs.

If you're going to buy a new truck to tow, I'd recommend at least a 3/4 ton crewcab short bed with heavy duty towing options, at least 3.73 axles, large gas engine (if you want to stay with gas) or diesel, factory brake controller, towing mirrors and other equipment you want for "creature features". I prefer 4x4 as quite often a 4x2 won't have enough traction to pull itself out of wet grass or even slightly muddy terrain.

If your DW is giving you the "go ahead" to get yourself a new truck, by all means, GO FOR IT before she changes her mind !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
