Portable ice makers

Camping World is advertising Dometic portable ice makers for about $200.00. Does anyone have any experience with these or other brands? Do they really make enough ice for 2 drinks in 15 minutes and are they worth buying?

Those ice makers are Awesome! If using the ice in drinks I suggest putting some cubes in your freezer to harden the cubes further. I got mine much cheaper at Target on sale.

I recently bought one through Camping World and it doesn't work properly. Dropping it off to authorized servicer today to diagnose.

We've used a portable ice maker for many years now to keep the cooler filled and ice for drinks. works great, just remember it is NOT a freezer, once the cubes get dumped into the tray and the tray is full, put them in the freezer, cooler, or use them or they melt.

IMHO the dometic is overpriced. You can get an equivalent unit for between $75- $100 at walmart, target, etc. FWIW there are only a few companies that make the ice makers and then the are sold under dozens/hundreds of brand names. Haier is one of the major mfg. that OEM's many of them. Shop around and find a size that fits your trailer storage. There are smaller and larger units than the dometic.

And yes, the first cubes take about 15 minutes on the medium sized cubes then they start poppling out quickly. Takes longer for the large cubes to start.
