Thumbs up TV Mount - Ghetto style....

Well maybe not ghetto, but those who normally buy the pre-made, factory type stuff would possibly think so.

After scratching my head a few days, and rummaging through numerous posts about TV mounting in the front room of TT's, I gave in and started looking for materials I had on hand to achieve the same results. 1st I found with such a small area, what was the need for swivel mounting?? Next I knew with an LED tv, would certainly need it at eye level or at least tilted slightly for a uniform view.

What I came up with is this, a 3/4" piece of EMT (electrical metallic conduit) cut at the width of the TV (26") then located the top mounting holes for the normal wall mount. Measuring off from center of the pipe, I marked and drilled two holes large enough to pass the factory screws through that I stole from the table mount kit. They are just long enough to pass through the pipe, and leave enough threads to almost bottom out in the screw holes provided on the back of the TV. I plan on painting the pipe black, and putting on 3/4 pipe rubber caps for appearance. By using only the top two mounts on the TV, it allows for about a natural 10 degree tilt downward which is perfect!

For the wall bracket, I found 2 threaded I-BEAM clamps. I located the studs in the wall with my trusty stud finder, and mounted the clamps in a position with the clamps in the U orientation, (see pic) spread far enough to disperse the weight more evenly. (It's only a 26" TV, and therefor weighs about 8 lbs so no worries). I tested the holding strength for 20 pounds per clamp, and the pipe support on the TV to make sure I will have no problems.I then simply hung the TV on the clamps (see pic) and Voila! I also have two bolts that hand tighten against the pipe to keep it from sliding (not seen in pics). I plan on taking the TV down after each trip anyway and storing under the bed with it being so easy to put on and remove. AGAIN, I do NOT plan on traveling with the TV mounted.

I had these items laying around, and found a use for them, didn't cost me a dime, and was roughly done (minus the paint and caps) in about 20 minutes. (after thinking and looking for days....but I don't count that time )

Looks good!

What's the aversion to not leaving it mounted while traveling?

I'm never as confident in my work as I should be.... I find myself taking the safe, rather than sorry approach to most things in life lately...haha. I may consider it after seeing how well the hand tightened screws that go against the pipe secure it in the straps. I'd be afraid of hitting a major bump and jarring it loose. (My luck!)

Thanks audio1der, I actually decided to paint it black and add the caps on the conduit ends, to match "store bought brackets" and the TV...looks better now!

SAD, after your comment, I went back and looked at my handywork, and added the bolts to tighten the conduit into the clamps. I think its pretty sturdy, maybe even "stout" lol, so I think I'll put a cushion on the bottom backside to cushion vibration while moving, and leave it up while traveling. If it falls, I'll just deal with it, if it happens, eh? After cussing a lil out loud of course...

There ya go. Less "ghetto" and more "sports bar." Who says that ingenuity is dead? I love stuff like this!

Heck slowpoke, it won't fall all the way to the floor, you've got those two "safety ropes" hanging from the ceiling

Looks good. I did something similar with my old TT. Like you I used a piece of 3/4 EMT, but for the wall I used two pieces of half uni strut and then a couple of clamps. It never came loose while traveling. I like the beam clamp idea, it looks less obtrusive than what I had.

Haha, Yeah, that's true, it'll just beat against the walls for a hundred miles or so until I stop and I'll look like this when I see it -> then then

Nah, I don't think it'll go anywhere, I'll know fer sure come the 29th on my first trip out...

Everyone, Thanks for the kudos!
