Memorial Day weekend

Where is everyone headed for the Holiday weekend? We will be at Rainbow Spgs State Park here in Florida. Will be joining up with friends and floating down the Rainbow River

We will be headed into one of three different national forests (haven't decided which direction to go yet). A number of favorite spots, just kind of waiting to find out how many from our group are going so we know which spot to head for.

This is one of my favorite spots. No picnic tables or outhouses -- but the price is sure right.

Cedar Hill State Park in Texas. This park is about 20 miles south of Dallas. It is close to my grandkids.

Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend is the season opening for Bass in Michigan. We'll be at a "sweet lake" in the upper pennisulia of Michigan, in a remote state forest campground "dry camping" with the bass boat, dog and enough "adult beverage" to make the weekend successful even if the fish aren't biting

Who knows, if it's nice, we may stay a week or so.

We will be camping northwest of Fort Worth with friends. It will be the "shakedown trip" for some of the mods I've done over the winter, getting ready for a trip to Creede, CO this summer.

We are heading to Crane Prairie Reservoir for some of Oregon's best bass fishing. The lake is in the high desert of central Oregon. We will also be "dry camping". Might also try and catch the million dollar trout!

Talking Getting Old

I guess I'm just getting old. We use to couldn't wait for a holiday to camping and mengle with large groups of people, but now a days we leave that to you younger bunch. We wait until the groups are gone back home or to work then we go camping when it's quit and calm. I guess us older folks call it relaxing, younger people call it hermitizing. Anyway I hope all of you have a wonderful and exciting memorial day weekend and you all get home safely. I'll be thinking of you all as I sip that cocktail while watching white tail deer from my back porch.

We will get our turn at that strategy when retirement comes. Still a few years away right now

Ruffus, Camp where we camp and you may well be the only one in the campground. The SF campground at our "sweet lake" has a total of 5 sites. I've never seen more than 3 (including us) campers at any given time, even in the busiest of camping seasons. Usually, when we arrive, we're the only ones there and late nights/early mornings the UP moose, bears, deer roam the campground causing us to stay near the camper or hustle to the boat and out onto the water. As the day progresses, there's less wildlife activity. Certainly the "human wildlife activity" is virtually non-existant.

For trips to more populated areas, we also use the strategy of leaving to go camping when the younger generation is returning home. Makes for a much nicer morning cup of coffee when you don't hear mom turn down her radio to yell at the top of her lungs at her kids to be quiet and not wake up the neighbors.... <sigh>
