Fresh Water Tank Fittings

Trailer: 2009 Passport 280BH

Goal: installing new/ larger fresh water tank

Problem: need to relocate hose fittings to another face of the tank. I’m installing a new 65 gal tank. Dimensions are 17” H x 19” W x 46” long. Due to these dimensions and the clearance I have available, I’ll have to plug the factory spin welded fittings on the 17x19 sides (ends of the tank) and add new fittings to the 17x46 side (long side of the tank).

Concern: a full tank will weigh some 500lbs. I’m concerned that if I just drill a hole and glue a new fitting near the bottom of the tank, for the water pump fitting, then I’m relying on glue to hold that fitting. Not sure I trust that. I don’t have the equip to spin weld fittings and I can’t get threaded fittings with a nut and gasket bc I can’t my hand into the tank to tighten that down.

Any good solutions for this? Would an adhesive be enough to hold the fitting? Recommendations in types of fittings/grommets? Would I need to be concerned about the weight of the water exerting pressure linearly on the fitting if the fitting is connected to a hose? The pressure shouldn’t be pushing the fitting “off” of the tank right?

As a rule fresh tanks are NOT ABS OR PVC and as such most glues wont hold. I would look into a local plastics shop like Tap Plastics that spin weld the fitting(s) where you need them. IMHO anything less and your looking for trouble.

I agree that glue isn't really an option.

You may be able to utilize the tank drain for the pump connection. Use a nipple, tee, nipple. Connect the pump at the tee.
