F-250 4x4 height compared to Cougar models

Anyone towing with the newer F-250's that are so doggone high? Specifically wondering if the Cougar line will tow relatively level or be significantly nose high.

I have a 2006 F350 and tow a Cougar 5ver. I use an Andersen Ultimate hitch and can adjust the height and it is close enough to level. I suspect my F350 is at least as high as anything newer.

If you wonder about bumper pulls, they make drop receiver hitches specifically for that reason. Should not be an issue.

Just for the record, I have a stock 2017 F250 KR CCSB and use 2.5" B&W 7 inch drop Tow & Stow Adjustable Ball Mount (model TS2049B) to level a travel trailer.

Thanks for those quick replies. I'm referring specifically to a 5th wheel hitch. Our last 5er was riding nose high and while we're looking around for a replacement, I'm trying to rule out any that will be nose high from the start.

I agree with Wiredgeorge, I have an Anderson hitch that works great. Lots of height adjustment, and the ball has an anti-sway that has worked very well. The only down side to the Anderson is that the load equalizing chains can be somewhat of a pain to install, (a feature I typically don't use, I don't really have a problem with tongue weight and I prefer the ride w/o the load equalizing).

Just for clarity, Wiredgeroge and I were refering to the Andersen Ultimate 5th wheel connection not the Andersen Weight Distribution hitch.

I have a 2017 F-250 4X4 with a Reese 5th wheel hitch towing a Sprinter 334FWFLS. Initially it was pretty level but I had to raise the hitch to increase the gap between the Sprinter and the bed of the truck. It is slightly nose up but it tows good.

My TV is a 2017 F350 Crew Cab and I tow with an Anderson hitch. It pulls my Cougar 310RLS level.

i was likewise very worried about the clearance and nose up issue, but now have a 2019 cougar 315 rls with a 2019 F350 and the B&M 20k manual slider. Perfect combo, sits flat and to date havent needed to use the manual slider. Only issue i have had was one trailer park that had a stupidly large decline and when i started to go down it realized the truck bed was going to hit the 5er so dropped it into 4 wheel drive, backed up and chose a different site. I love this set up. Also i believe the 250 and 350 are the same rear height given they are both super dutys.

Jim,

I've got an 2017 F250 4x4 towing a 2017 Cougar 327RLK with a Demco autoslide hitch. Works great and no problem with being level.

We have a 2017 F250 6.7 SB, and we pull a 2018 Cougar 366RDS and it pulls level. We have the B&W Companion Slider, set at the lowest location and the trailer sits level.

Wow, to answer the OP's question, it makes no difference what hitch is being used, it is all about the clearance between the bed and fifth wheel which should be 6 inches or more depending on terrain encountered. To answer the question, it may depend on the Cougar model. My Laredo hooked up level on the 13 F-250 4x4. Both the Laredo and Cougar are mid profile fifth wheel units.

I tow a Hideout 303RLI with 2017 F-250 FX4 which is the tallest F250. I am slightly nose high with 7" clearance between rails. I have the Andersen hitch and could drop the hitch point and have 5.5 inches of clearance but I elected to have 7 inches. Regardless of the hitch you choose you should be fine as the hitches are adjustable.

I have a 14 f350 platinum and I tow a cougar 330rbk. dead level and I have 5.5" of clearance. I have never had an issue towing on some pretty uneven roads and approaches, but with a 39 foot 5th I don't do much 4x4ing.

I have a 2017 F250 4x4 Crew cab, FX4 package (and as TNV Jones stated, it is the tallest 250) and tow a 2017 Cougar 28RKS 5er. Sits on a Demco Autoslide with 7 inch clearance to my side rails. No significant drop when attached.

Take away seems to be everyone things that the "hitch" they use is best and all of them seem to work just fine.
