Agree. But to be sure, follow each, the one wire that is bolted to the frame is your ground wire. Should be bolted to the frame near the battery box holder on the tongue of the trailer.

If no one changed anything the black wire is pos. white is ground and should go to the frame. it sounds crazy but the battery is wired like a stick house not like your car!

Follow the wires and the one that bolts to the frame is the negative. I hooked mine up backwards, got the sparky spark, and blew the "reverse polarity protection fuses". Those 40Amp fuses were hard to find, even at the camper stores.

Found mine at the local auto parts store no problem. But yeah, I was looking for them for the same reason.

I wrapped the back wire with red electrical tape and warapped the white one with black tape, so I don't do that again

Our Passport was hooked up backwards just once. It blew both 40 amp fuses in the panel, along with the .3A fuse on the fridge circuit board, and the 15A fuse on the back of the radio/CD/DVD unit. Fortunately, electrical troubleshooting is what I do, so it was fairly easy to track down the blown fuses and get everything back up.
Needless to say, my battery leads are now Red & Black like they SHOULD be to begin with. Hopefully, that will eliminate any confusion by anyone connecting the battery on our Passport.

batt. hookup
Hey Cani, when I got My Springdale it had a sticker falling off. I made several copies and mounted them at all 12v connection points. no excuse now if I have a senior moment. ---Lou---

I guess I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who was confused. I got it wrong the first time and blew the fuses, which resulted in a long trip to buy new fuses.
It seems like something that is a simple fix and should be labeled going forward (or just simply use the same black/red convention as car batteries).

It is "frustrating" to hook up the battery "backwards" but there should be a decal at the battery location stating, "White is neg and Black is pos"....
Trailers are "wired" like houses, not cars, so white is always "neutral" and black is always "hot".
Many have simply put some red tape (or shrink tubing) on the positive terminal and some black on the negative terminal to reduce the confusion when in a hurry. My batteries are grounded to the frame right next to the battery box, so it's just a matter of following the ground wire and connecting that to the negative terminal, but not all trailers have their ground point so close to the battery.

If my RV Dealer has tech's that aren't smart enough to realize the hot side is Red and the ground side is Black...................I don't want them working on my trailer to begin with!
I have everything labeled now............so there should be no doubt as to what goes where..........even for my wife!
