Storage lot security

We're going to start housing our TT in a secure storage lot as close to home as we can find starting this spring.
I've heard some people (other owners) take advantage of the minimal supervision and help themselves to anything not nailed down...
I'm planning to chain & lock down our batteries, spare tire and propane.
I've also heard that the keys to the front storage compartments my be the same between many different TTs- is that true?
If so I want an additional lock on both of the Fr. storage doors.

Most factory storage compartment locks are the same ... you can change them but the compartments can easily be opened with a screw driver or pry-bar causing more cost in damage. It is against the law to lock the propane compartments. (fire department must have access.
Your best bet is to remove anything that you think may grow legs or wings. JM2˘, Hank

That little silver key with CH751 stamped on the handle? We all have them. RV manufacturers in general all seem to use the same key for outside storage compartments. Enough so that experienced RV owners treat them as removable latch handles instead of lock sets. If there is a storage lot with 100 TT's and 5er's on it, you can bet that I will open the locked storage compartments on 99 of them with a CH751.

Your entry door keys are not much more secure. I can purchase a ring that contains all 50 of the different FIC keys for $56 so getting into any trailer with a FIC lock set on the door isn't much of a challenge.

A good sized flat blade screw driver or small pry bar will open up any door or compartment on any Keystone and most other manufacturers' rigs as fast or faster than the appropriate key.

You look to be at least a couple hundred miles away from the US border. You should be fine. Heck, even where I store my trailer, I see a lot of stuff *not* nailed down that doesn't get touched. My facility has cameras and randomly roving supervision. It'd make me think twice about snatching something since they have a time-stamped video record of people coming and going.

I'm more concerned about when we leave the trailer while camping. I have changed the storage locks *and* the front door lock.

We personally have never had any problems with things growing legs at our storage lot. I'm usually more worried about things growing legs at campgrounds more then our storage lot.

Um, thanks, I think. I feel really powerless now.
I'll still chain down our batts (around the batt boxes) and propane through the tank handles to the frame.
