What additional items do I need?

Before I sign on the dotted line for my Sprinter I would like to know what else do I really need. Extended Warranty? TPMS? Dealer fiberglass protector?
These are items mentioned already in discussions; anything else?

The dealer calls those "profit centers" for a reason. Rarely will an extended warranty be worth the paper it is printed on, I check my tires before each trip and the new RV may already have Chinese tires that WILL fail suddenly so doubtful a TPMS will really help, and fiberglass protector is a fancy way of saying polish. Your call.

Out of the three the tpms is what i would buy. go on line and check TST corp nice kit easy diy install 500 and change for 10 sensor kit 4 for the camper 6 for my dually. worth the peace of mind. the rest is as stated a waste of your hard earned money.

Of the things you mentioned I too would get the TPMS no matter what type tires you have. My "chinese" tires failed but my TPMS gave me warning before they blew. Although I didn't understand what it was telling me at the time, it made me pull over and look. Not sure what the Sprinter has and doesn't have but if you have a range hood that does NOT vent outside demand one.

Service maintenance plans, "add on" surface protectant packages, scotchgard fabric spray, "lifetime" polish, all pretty much a "sham" to get your money and to enhance dealer profit margins.

Things, you'll need:

1. a quality sewer hose with connectors
2. good regulator and hoses for fresh water
3. Adapters for your shore power cord (30Amp, 15 Amp and 50 Amp) so you can adapt to whatever the power pedastle has to offer.
4. leveling blocks, plastic, wood or your choice
5. wheel chocks
6. holding tank chemicals of your choice (buy a small bottle/package as a trial)
7. lock for your coupler, either a frame or 5th wheel pin
8. wheel covers for ALL your tires
9. spare fuses for your power converter
10. ice cube trays for your reefer
11. a good file folder to store all your owner's manuals, receipts for purchases and warranty/operating instructions.
12. a small spray container of 303 surface protectant
13. a box of exam gloves for emptying the holding tanks and handling sewer hoses
14. several buckets, a sponge and RV long handle brush
15. spare bulbs for your lights


Just a few of the things many of us find necessary, there are others depending on what you like to do when camping/RVing.....

Beer, shorts, large hat, sun glasses, a comfy chair, umm and a cooler with ice for umm more Beer,and a few sticks for the fire pit, all that other stuff sounds to much like work. lol

A couple of little things I find indispensable are a Y water fitting with independent cut offs and a 10-15 foot water hose..

OP: PJhawk, Above all be sure that any faults you find on your Pre Delivery Inspection are repaired and documented.

Great lists....won't go into the 2 tool boxes and 4 plastic bins DH has, oh but my portable firepit, lighted "Palm Trees" and "It's 5 o'clock Somewhere" flag are all a must!!!

RVing = $$$ one way or the other, but we love it.
(new trailer and truck tires this year....OUCH)

I have most of what you said haven't had to use any of them yet and I wonder if it was money well spent or not but like insurance you buy it and pray you never need it

Have them throw in a good start up kit my brother-in-law got a camper this year and got a starter kit it had 25ft water hose,25ft sewer line with connectors 2 wheel chocks and few other things

I would add an extension cord for you shore power cable, two 30' pieces of coaxial cable and a male to male connector, a surge protector, electric or battery powered drill for leveling jacks with a 3/4 socket, and roof vent covers if they are not already installed.

For those of us in cooler Spring/Fall climates, I love these propane tank gauges quick and easy way to monitor whether dinner will be cooked thoroughly, or served raw! Costco usually sells them up here in Canada-land in the Spring/Summer months for around $13CAD each.

In addition to the critical stuff mentioned prior, other items that I wouldn't leave home without include:

- Tool kit (screwdrivers, sockets/wrenches, pliers, hammer, flashlight & spare batteries)
- Axe & Maul for splitting fire wood (maybe a propane torch to light the fire too?)
- Collapsible Aluminum Table
- Outdoor Rug
- Spare bulbs (for trailer lights)
- Walkie Talkies (to keep tabs on the kids!)
- Ground Stake & leash for the dog


Finally there's "the 4 B's" - the 'staples' essential for sustaining life (and marital equillibrium): Bacon, Bread, Bog Roll & Beer! (omit one of these and watch certain matter collide with the oscillating wind-generating appliance!)
