Just an update. I finally got around to replacing the cooling unit on my fridge...we have been camping using a cooler for several months.
Thanks again to everyone that helped out with information, this is why this forum is so awesome. Thanks especially to Russ for the link to rvcoolingunit.com. I ordered a new, Amish built, cooling unit from them. They were easy to work with, answered emails right away, and I received the cooling unit within a week of ordering it. It was $760, including shipping, from Indiana to California.
Here is some info if you are thinking about doing this project yourself. I was able to install the cooling unit myself (I needed help to move the fridge), it took pretty close to a full day to do it. It is not for the faint of heart. I would say it is a moderate to advanced DIY project. If you are real handy it is doable but if you are not real handy I would hire someone to do it. I had to drill some new mounting holes and do a little bit of re wiring to make it work.
Thanks again to everyone that helped me out, I appreciate it.
