Highway 9 West
We left Brice one morning and headed back down to Zion. No one told me about a 36 footer traveling threw the top of Zion Nat. Park. At one point I was so scared I almost frooze in the middle of the Pass, I even smoked the brakes at one point. Then I looked down. Fortunatly my wife was there to ease me threw it. Go farther South before you turn West and head back up to Zion.

rudythegreat, Howdy;
Are you refering to Ut. St. route 9 (???),
from Mount Carmel Jct. to laVirkin ? If so, the next
St. Hiway North is Ut. St Rt. 14. Slow going as they
are still clearing and reparing that one from a Landslide
that took out a section late last Summer.
It was a big slide....

Ok that made me want to tell my favorite Indian joke that I heard when I was a kid and every time I drive down a road prone to landslides I think of it. (I was born and raised on a reservation). So now you have to "hear" it too. I'm sorry but the devil got into me and I think you should think of it as you drive too. (drum rollllll).
Long, long ago an old Indian chief was about to die, so he
called for Geronimo and Falling Rocks, the two bravest
warriors in his tribe. The chief instructed each to go out
and seek buffalo skins. Whoever returned with most skins
would be the new chief.
About a month later, Geronimo came back with one hundred
pelts, but Falling Rocks never returned. even today as you
drive throughout the west, you can see signs saying:
WATCH OUT FOR FALLING ROCKS!

The 9 I'm speaking about was the one we ended up on in April of this year. It took us up and over the top of Zion. Had to pay extra for the tunnel flag, not a problem there, BUT the switch backs and drop-offs scared the things out of me. The Pass is narrow and the fences are nothing more than little cement blocks along the edge. We should have drove the extra 90 miles and come up to Zion from the West side.
