Lock dimensions for outdoor kitchen, storage and shower

Hello,

I would like to replace all of my locks on my Premier 31BHPR (2014).

Yes - I do understand that if someone wants in bad enough they will get in, but I want to change the default, standard, common locks that most RVs have.

There are related threads, but this is specific to dimensions on exterior key locks.

Front door- For my front exterior door I plan to upgrade to the RVLock 4.0 (keyless lock)

Backdoor / washroom exterior door - ideally I would like to also use the same keyless RV lock but I can't afford it, so I plan to opt for the standard RV Lock mechanical replacement lock. (At least it's a change from the default manufacturer lock)

My question I hope you can help with are on the
- exterior kitchen lock (1)
- Exterior shower lock (1)
- Storage compartments locks (2)

My camper is in winter storage several hours away from me and probably not accessible due to snow on the roads.

I am considering either a replacement key lock or a tubular cam lock, but either way I think my question remains the same.

Question: what size do I need for each lock, I think this website describes how to measure the length required. http://www.ch751.com/docs/orderform.pdf
- lock size (length)
- Cam locking arm size/ length
- Cam offset/inset

I am not sure if the kitchen, shower and storage are all the same, same widths?

Also I am not sure if these dimensions vary from make/model.

I appreciate your help and I hope this info can help others as well.

Thank you.

I just did this on a Carbon. I wouldn't assume that your lock setup would be like anyone other one necessarily.

My locks were either 5/8 or 1-1/8. I got them at:
RV Locks and More - they made the door latch/key setup. I was able to pick a key that matched the doors (after replacing one, as neither door had the same key).

Lock and key is pretty cheap, I think $6 each.

The reality of the Carbon was that the locks seem to be "approximated" and their cams weren't exact either. You re-use the cams anyway, so all you need to do is match the depth of the lock.

I adjusted each cam (meaning bent them) so that doors fit flush and didn't rattle..

The order form has actual size pictures. just remove your old locks and lay them on the picture that matches, and that is the part you need to order. no guess work involved.

Hello. Yes I understand that, but as mentioned my RV is parked several hours away in storage and is not really accessible. I was hoping to be proactive and have the parts on hand when I go to my RV and dewinterize this spring.

In this cold winter climate I also did not want to unscrew these locks, open latch doors and potentially cause some damage due to ice around seals etc...

I just posed the question on this forumn to see if someone already had this info.

I didn't measure. I eyeballed.. And I got 2 wrong. Bending the cam affords necessary adjustment - better than factory anyway... You don't have to pull them to measure.

AlbertaRvMan, Howdy;

Support your local Locksmith.
Pulled my locks and took them to the local lock guy, cost about $10.00 (US),
to have them all re pined, and new keys cut. Put them back in eazy-peezy.

Hi hankaye,

That's a very interesting option I did not consider. I will defiantly look into that.

Thanks.

I'd assume that they keyway has to be the same between the door lock and cargo to allow for re-pin.... $10 is a great deal, I've done a few of those myself and it's a real pain.

Doors are different than the cargo locks, I had both sets done.
