Cougar Towing

New to the forum. Been towing a Jayco TT for the past two years. I have a 2014 F250 Superduty 6.2 gasser 4x4 Lariat Crew Cab. Full tow package with transmission cooler, etc. Starting to look at 5ers and really like the Cougar line. Anybody pulling with a similar gasser? How do they handle? I've been doing a lot of research with numbers and know that for what we pack on out trips, we'd only add about 500lbs to the RV. Most trips are just weekends so I'm looking to not go much over 10,000 dry weight. The front living room catches our eye and has a dry weight of 10,095. Any feedback would be helpful. Not opposed to looking at Xlites either.

With that truck, I recommend keeping gvwr of the fiver you choose under 11,000 lbs and no more than loaded 2000 lb pin. Fifth wheels are a pleasure to tow.

We have a 2014 Cougar 320qbs. I tow with a 2012 Ford F250 6.2 gas. I have no issues towing. We just towed over mountains from central Vermont to the Thousand Islands area in New York.

The weight adds up fast. The 5th hitch...200#, then battery, propane, camping gear, etc. Check the yellow tag inside the drivers door on your truck. It will give the payload.
I pulled a Cougar XLite 28SGS with a GMC 2500, super cab, 4x4, 6.0 gas. I think the Cougar was 1700 pin weight but around 2400 loaded. No real problems. I just didn't like the high RPM up long grades and the loss of momentum when I got out of the gas. It was very tiring to me.
Edit....the Cougar pin weight was 1410, so loaded was probably 2100.

Cougar towing

Look at my signature and you will see my setup. Have been to Lake George and lots of camping in Pa, and have had no trouble towing, Added air bags only because I like truck level. Only had a 2" drop when hooked up. Every once in a while I will go over 3500rpms on inclines but I find that this is when I also carry a fair amount of fire wood along with everything else I bring for the trip. Generally tow at 60-62mph and have no problems and average about 9-9.5 mpg. Will you slow down on hills yes, everyone does. Would have liked a diesel but $9K more is a lot of wood to chop.

I have a Cougar 326RES AND TOW WITH A 2013 Ford F250 with no problems. In fact my truck rides a lot better with the 5ver in tow. Good luck! Check out the 327RES it is an incredible layout....

Cougar Towing

The only difference between your truck and mine is that mine is 2wd. It pulls my 29 RLI with no problem.
