Fall Travel plans

Good day folks, I could use some advise from my fellow seasoned travers.. I would like to set out on a trip from Sugar Land Texas to Farmington New Mexico.. Stay a few months depending on the weather.. then from there on to Eureka California to stay with my daughter for the holidays. I have never ventured out of Texas with my 2008 F250 Super Duty and 27ft 5ver, most of my trips have been around 600 mile round trip from home. I am a long time Rver but it has been a very long time since I traveled long distances. I dont have a time frame to follow so that would not be a issue. I guess my biggest concern is the mountain driving.. Does anyone have a rout that has been traveled before that direction... ? or any other advise would be greatly appreciated. I dont plan on driving more than 3 to 4 hours a day.. I would like to leave around October.
Thanks!
