FedEx Expedited Truck
Was thinking about getting a Pete and building it like the FedEx trucks that is used for Expedited Freight but with a little bigger sleeper possibly from ARI or someone else and behind that put about a 18-20 Ft. Box to put a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. Would have to build ramps to get up in back but shouldn't be no problem. I don't know how long this would be but probably 40 feet or so. The sleeper would have frig, stove, shower and everything needed. Would have 300 Ga. fuel tanks if enough room and a APU also as well as 50Amp power. I would like pros and cons about this as We are new to this. Not new to Trucking but new at camping. My wife don't drive big rigs so I would probably use 13 speed or maybe go Auto....I would like comments about this whether favorable or not.....Just tell us what you think!!....Thanks, Jack

Welcome to the forum! I’d probably check into a couple of truck forums or toter home forums..I’ve seen a few guys on YouTube with truck and sleeper combos. (Joneses to travel?) or so something like that…
What kind of camper are you going to pull with it?

I see these fairly often in my travels across the nation (my wife and I are team drivers). More expensive that a typical RV I'm sure but totally built the way YOU want it with whatever amenities you desire.
The ones I see are self contained straight body trucks (Freightliners, Pete's, etc.), usually with a matching car trailer in tow. If you're planning on staying on the road for a lengthy time this is the way to go in my opinion. Keep in mind though, the MSRP on our 2021 Peterbilt 579 sleepercab was $162K.

This will all be self contained......That's what the large sleeper is for that has all the enemities.....I've pulled trailers for awhile as a job and now want a straight truck which I haven't ever driven.....I don't know how a 40ft. straight would turn......I can handle a 53ft with a tractor pulling it but a straight might be something else

That is what I'm wanting but a custom sleeper might be too much on top of the pete and another box on the rear for the jeep.....I don't want to pull anything.....could cause a problem at times

Most folks that have these rigs stop at pull through RV parks and take the Corvette out of the trailer when they want to go somewhere.

Northtrail RV in Fort Myers has at least six of these in stock just waiting for your signature. All KW's that we looked at. (Just out of curiosity) List price for the biggest, plain white, and not all that fancy inside was $325,000. Their shop will do the custom paint for a small upcharge....
I believe they had twin Minimizer Ultra Leathers however, so your fanny will be snug while driving.

I will not be pulling a Corvette. I've had several of them and at one time they were an OK car but after 2000 I'm done with them....At my age I don't care whether girls like them or not.....LOL

I understand the C-8's are much more comfortable.

Yeah I think you're looking for a toter. There is one in a site near me now. Looks great in plain white. I think he said it was 31ft living area, plus the bunk over the cab. This one is on a Freightliner (aka: Freightshaker) chassis with a CAT C8. Rated to pull a monster size trailer. I believe the owner told me he had a big stacker. He had the interior built to his specs until he acquired a girlfriend and remodelled.

Have you looked at a Super C?

These are what I would call a full blown Motorhome. The reason I wanted the FedEx Truck concept was when I get tired of it I can pull back box off it and install a 5th wheel and there you have a very nice Pete with very low miles and a huge sleeper for sale.....

You have a good idea but....getting a vehicle up to the height of the truck frame rails sounds like an issue to me. Ramps will be difficult.
It's a long shot, but look at the haulers that NASCAR uses. They have an elevator system to lift cars in a stacker trailer. Featherlite makes their trailers. No idea who makes the lift system.
This could get expensive.
edit add: here is the company that did the conversion near me at the RV park:
http://nrcmod.com/index.php
May be some ideas in there.
I don't know how the builders get the truck so low like in HBlick48s Volvo pics.

Maybe just buy one already set up…then when you get tired of it just sell the whole rig and forget about all the labor converting it back and forth…if you really like it after using one for a year or so then build your dream truck
I’m building a teardrop trailer for my daughter..it’s taking a long time to make progress because I realize that most projects like this always end with someone saying “ yeah when I build my next one I will definitely change this and this and avoid that”
Prototypes rarely look like the final vision

That is what I want but buying a used truck with high mileage is not a good ideal. I have owned 3 trucks over the years and best thing I ever done is buy a new one.....No problems at all for several hundred thousand and when you do have trouble it is very expensive especially when you get into an engine or transmission.....

I get your point
I’d stick $30000 in a bank account and that would cover a new engine or transmission combo But that’s me
You could get a oil analysis on the motor and that will tell you a lot
Still be way ahead of the game compared to spending 6figures+ at least for the prototype…spend the money on the final build. You could probably easily sell your 1 st creation

I don't want to pull anything. I want everything self contained like the FedEx expedited trucks....No fifth wheel on them.....want to carry our Jeep in the back box....

Find whatever straight flatbed pulls your trigger and put a cabover camper on it. Room for the Jeep behind the cabover. you might talk to whoever makes power tailgates about modifying one for the Jeep.
