Route 1

This past spring when finding ourselves standing at mile marker 0 in Key West I knew at that moment a Route 1 trip is in our future. Sometime this or early fall we will be starting at the other end (Fort Kent, ME) and just taking a short trip from the tip of Maine down to Mass over the course of 5-7 days probably terminating at the place we tailgate for Patriots games. Then in the future picking up in Foxboro MA and taking a number of weeks to go the remaining length.


Although we have lived in New England are entire life outside a wedding and a couple of ski trips I've never visited ME. Are there any sights/campgrounds along the Route 1 path that are a must see?
