Winegard carryout

New owner of a 27 SAB. Since there is no ladder can I mount my winegard Carryout Satellite to a fiberglass flag pole to get it higher? Just looking for different ideas.

I don't think a fiberglass pole would work unless it has a very large diameter to prevent the normal flex associated with a figerglass pole. For a Sat dish, carry-out of tripod mount height is not the issue, clear view to the sats is the answer. I do understand that in some places getting it higher may help seeing over near by obstructions. Without a ladder, how about some type of mount on your rig for the carryout, you'ld just have to carry some means to get it up there.

I was just trying for consistent location as far as setup and security. If I ended up facing the wrong way I wanted to raise it above trailer height and not have to worrying about another setup. Probably no perfect solution but maybe a bat house pole? Would 1 1/8" galvanized pipe work?

I would think the biggest problem would be getting it mounted solid to prevent any movement of the dish. How about one of those Flag Poles with the base that you park the RV on? Of course that would depend on slide configuration, as I know it wouldn't work for us as the slide is over the wheels on the road side and the awning on the curbside. Keep brain storming and you or someone will come up with a great idea.

Considering your post, thinking of how easy it is to loose signal when moving dishes on tripods, also, actually had our dome needing to re-align due to stepping on the entry steps without the stabilizers down.... Just means it does not take much movement to cause loss of signal. I've seen a couple of different options with mounts for the Carryout's, short poles mounted on the sides of the units properly, bumper clamps, the key is 'stable'. Good luck, nice to have stuff configured so you don't have to mess with it while relaxing!

Hadn't thought about the stable part. Might blow the whole idea.

If you have a hitch in the rear. You could make one that slid into that. With pole on the ground. Then raise the pole and lock it it. They have them at Harbor Freight that would work. You would just have to make a way to stabilize it. Pull off the D Ring and make the U part that would attach to the pole.

D-ring might actually work if the pole was right diameter.

Here is what we came up with. Looks like it will work great. Little tough getting the pole back off the stub without a ladder.

Well, looks pretty neat! Get out there and use the setup, looks pretty stable, if the wind blows and it looses signal you will know pretty quick. Only need to raise the unit enough above the roof to get the clear view, less the better. Great job, let us know how this works out. I struggled with how to move away from the tripod (still keep it in case) ended up with a used dome mounted on the roof for a couple of hundred $'s, has been awesome so far. If we park in other than clear view will need to get the old tripod out, however most of the time we try to not pull into the trees. The dome's are really nice though, nothing like just stopping and hitting the button for acquisition, your all set.
